LONDON - Britain believes Iran's Revolutionary Guard is supplying explosive technology that is killing British soldiers in Iraq, including eight who died in separate bombings over the summer, a senior British government official said Wednesday

Britain's Press Association reported that the official said there was evidence Iran was in contact with Sunni Muslim insurgent groups battling coalition troops in Iraq.

The official, addressing reporters on condition of anonymity, did not specify whether the alleged Iranian technology was also responsible for the deaths of U.S. soldiers, according to the agency.

He reportedly said Britain believed the guard had given insurgents the technology — originally obtained from the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah — used in a series of deadly attacks on British troops in southern Iraq over the summer. The soldiers were killed by powerful roadside bombs capable of punching through armored vehicles.

Britain has accused Iran of responsibility for explosions which have caused the deaths of all eight UK soldiers killed in Iraq this year.
A senior British official, briefing correspondents in London, blamed Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

He said they provided the technology to a Shia group in southern Iraq. The Iranians had denied this, he added.

While UK officials have hinted at an Iranian link before, this is the first specific allegation to be made.

They may feel there is little to lose right now by making such accusations, given that diplomatic relations are already low following the breakdown of talks over Iran's nuclear programme, says the BBC website's world affairs correspondent, Paul Reynolds.

dont know where they get the info to accuse Iran of the attacks, maybe the capture of one of the Shiites' militia. its possible to put pressure on Iran for its nuclear ambition, or that it may be that the Revolutionary Guards are doin this without the Iranian govts. knowledge and the Iranians can easily deny the accusations.
