SU-34 Fullback

Seems to me most NATO designations of Soviet/RF aircraft is based around begins with F for fighter; Flanker, Fishbed, Flogger. B for bomber, Bear, Badger, Blackjack, C for cargo or transport, Candid etc, H for helos, Havoc, Hind. It's not the most sophisticated system but it has a rationale. As such, Platypus might be a translation for the Russian name for the SU-32/34, but as has been pointed out, it's not likely to be the NATO designation for it.

I will write it once again. All production machines in russian air force will receive designation Su-32. Su-32FN is version for antiship and antisubmarine operations.

And it is not carrier capable. You are reffering to Su-33UB or Su-27KUB. It has also side by side cocpit, but with rounded cross-section. Su-32 has egg like cockpit cross section.
