As the saying goes, "bad things come in threes". When viewing recent cataclysmic disasters, you have to wonder what cataclysmic event will occur next.

I thought that the Tsunami was truly a cataclysm that would be hard to approach in sheer destructive force but now, with Hurricane Katrina and the destruction of New Orleans, I have to seriously consider what could possibly be next.

I believe that a seismic event, an earthquake or volcanoe, will strike the continental U.S. in the next several months. What do YOU believe will occur to complete this "threesome of doom" (sorry for the melodramatic title)

Its funny you say this, I have had two deaths in the last week, I told my wife , "you know there is going to be a third right?", She agreed.

It's an old saying......"bad things come in threes".....but it seems to be true. Of course, it's a matter of perception but it has always had that effect on me. In my life and in my life experience, things always have come in threes.....

Wasn't there like a typhoon in Asia or somethin, and a volcano in Venezuala (sorry for my spelling)

of course there were volcanoes in Venezuela or "something".....it's always something....but we are looking for the something that falls into that cataclysmic level of the Tsunami or of Katrina.........

Presently, I am leaning towards the eruption of one of the many volcanoes active in the American Northwest -- and not necessarily Mt. St. Helens -- to complete this cataclysm triumvirate.

Or Yellowstone. She's due, and has been moving over the last several years [not what ya want in an active volcanic area]

There was a recent 'hypothetic' documentary on a super-eruption at Yellow Stone...if it went it up, it would make the Mt Pinotubo eruption in the Phillipines look like a small bonfire in comparison

There are also theories that the the amount of oil pumped out of the ground could accelerate a seismic disaster...even though water is pumped back into the 'cavity' from where the oil has been extracted...'geological pressure' cannot be maintained, and added to that that water is less dense than oil..as the area of the earth's crust supported by the trapped oil reserves slowly sinks, it increases stresses along tectonic fault lines and has been hypothesised that could be the cause of 'an acceleration' of quake and volcanic activity globally in the last 50 years...now where did I put that crystal ball??

#3?

Incredible amounts of fingerpointing, and kevlar strength red-tape
delay rescue efforts, cost lives..

Well, not that I believe that a third cataclysmic event is going to happen really soon, I suppose Maybe an earthquake of magnitude 9.0 or higher, or perhaps Mt. Rainier might erupt.

Like the old expression goes, "bad things come in threes". Will Rita make it three? Another hurricane and another storm surge to flood New Orleans would not be good. But then, Rita could be just as cataclysmic to some other locacation. Galveston makes 3? I pray not.

Bad things do come in threes when they feel like it, and I believe it is that time for it to happen again. I've came up with at least five different possibilities.
1. Major earthquake on the West Coast, 7 dot 0 or greater.
2. Another terrorist attack somewhere in the U.S.
3. Another major hurricane strikes another major American city (like Houston)
4. An infectious disease of some sort
5. The price of oil hits 90 bucks a barrel.

As long as the parties this weekend aren't cancelled, I'm cool...

How long is the window? 'Cause crappy things happen all the time, and if you wait a month, yeah, it'll be three together, simply because you waited long enough.

I subscribe to the bad things come in threes saying. However natural disasters happen all the time, so I would say these bad things happen more than just in 3s.

I suppose if we are to expect another huge disaster then I think it could be the 'big one' that the pacific coast of North America has been waiting for.
I'm not sure why but I've been getting the feeling the west coast is going to get that big quake in 2007.

Just heard on the news "The only thing in the way to slow this thing down is Texas"

I am hearing reports in Austin that groc stores are running out of batteries and bottled water. Traffic is slow but moving.

They are actually cancelling football games-- this is SERIOUS!!

But hey, the music fest is still on in Austin this weekend!
