I came across some prophecies about a 'Great French King' that would
appear before the Anti-Christ comes. I had to chuckle ... a French King
and monarchy reborn? A 'Great' French King even ... Anyways,
I'll pass this along and ya'll can decide for yourselves what these mean.

Some don't say 'French' ... but they do say 'King' and fit in with the others
that say 'French.

Some of these I found to be frightening .... hope they don't happen.

********************************************************
I put the person's name, a little something about them, and then the
prophecy quote under their name.

1 - St. Mehodius (4th Century) Bishop. Died a martyr -
'A day will come when the enemies of Christ will boast of having conquered
the whole world. They will say: 'Christians cannot escape now!' But a
Great king will arise to fight the enemies of God. He will defeat them, and
peace will be given to the world, and the Church will be freed from her
anxieties.

(this one sounds like it's just wishful thinking to me)
2 - St. Remigius (5th Century) Bishop of Rheims, France -
'Take notice that the Kingdom of France is predestined by God for the
defense of the Roman Church which is the only true Church of Christ.
This kingdom shall someday be great among the kingdoms of the earth,
and shall embrace all the limits of the Roman Empire, and shall submit
all other kingdoms to it's own scepter.'

(this is long and rather detailed)
3 - St. Caesar of Arles (6th Century) Father of the Church
'When the entire world, and in a special way France, and in France
especially the provinces of the north, of the east, and above all
that of Lorraine and Champagne, shall have been laid waste by the
greatest miseries and trials, then the provinces shall be comforted
by a prince who had been exiled in his youth, and who shall recover
the crown of the lilies. This prince shall extend his dominion over the
total universe.

At the same time, by the will of God, a most holy man shall receive the
Papacy, who will be most perfect in every spiritual perfection. This Pope
will have with him the great Monarch, a most virtuous man, who shall be
an eminent leader of the holy line of French Kings. This great Monarch
shall assist the Pope in the reformation of the whole earth. Many
nations and their princes that are living in error and impiety (at that time)
shall be converted, and an admirable peace shall reign among men during
many years because the wrath of God shall be appeased through their
repentance, penance, and good works. There will be one common law,
only one faith, one baptism, one religion.

All nations shall recognize the Holy See of Rome, and shall pay homage
to the Pope. But after an extended period of time fervor will cool,
iniquity will abound, and moral corruption shall become worse than
ever before, which shall bring upon mankind the last and worse
persecution of Anti-Christ, and the end of the world.'

4 - St. Cataldus (7th Century) Bishop of Taranto
'The Great King will wage war till he is 40 years of age. He will assemble
great armies, and hurl back the tyrants out of his empire.

5 - Rabanus Maurus (9th Century) Abbot of Fulda Germany Benedictine
Monastery and Archbishop of Mayence. Chroniclre of prophecy.
' Our principle Doctors (teachers of the faith) agree in telling us, that
towards the end of time one of the descendants of the kings of France
(Gaul) shall reign over all the Roman Empire; and that he shall be the
greatest of the French Monarchs, and the last of his race. After having
governed well his kingdom, he shall go to Jerusalem, and lay down his
sceptre and crown on Mt. Olivet. This shall be the conclusion of the
Roman and Christian Empire.

6 - St. Anselm (11th Century) Theologian. Doctor of the Church.
Archbishop of Cantebury.
'Certain Doctors truly say, that one of the kings of the Frankish
(Roman) Empire shall posses it in its entirety (ex integro) which
King shall ive in the last time and shall be the greatest and last
of kings. Who after he shall have happily governed his Kingdom,
shall come to Jerusalem and lay down his scepter and crown on
Mount Olivet. he shall be the last and consummate (emperor) of the
Roman and Christian Empire.

And immediately thereupon (after he lays down scepter and crown)
according to the sentence of Paul, they (the Doctors) say that
Antichrist shall come.'

7 - Monk Adson (10th Century) Chronicler of prophecies. Gallican.
'Some of our Teachers (Latin - 'Doctores') say that a king of the
Franks will possess the entire Roman Empire. He will be the
greatest and the last of all Monarchs. After having wisely governed
his kingdom, he will go in the end to Jerusalem and will lay down
his scepter and his crown upon the Mount of Olives. Immediately
afterwards, Antichrist will come.

8 - St. Thomas a'Becket (12th Century) Archbishop of Canterbury.
ENGLAND. Martyr.
'A knight shall come from the West. He shall capture Milan,
Lombardy, and the three Crowns. He shall then sail to Cyprus
and Famagoste and land at Jaffa, and reach Christ's grave where
he will fight. Wars and wonders shall befall till people believe in
Christ toward the end of the world.

9 - St. Hildegard (12th Century) Miraculous visions from age 3.
Responsible for numerous miraculous cures. Benedictine nun
in Bingen Germany.
'And it was given to me to understand and see, not with my corporal
eyes, the Holy Scriptures, all the deep and dark secrets of the Prophecies
of all the Prophets before Christ and above all, the Gospels of the New
Testament, and all the works of the Son of God, I understood....

Peace will return to the world when the White Flower again takes
possession of the throne of France. During this period of peace,
people will be forbidden to carry weapons, and iron will be used only
for making agricultureal implements and tools. Also during this period,
the land will be very productive, and many Jews, heathens, and
heretics will join the Church.

For the latter times will be more evil and corrupt in the eyes of God.
The children of God will be persecuted by means most hateful in the
eyes of God. The Throne of The Last Roman Catholic Empire will
crumble, and the scepter will fall out of the trembling hand of him who
sits on the throne. (By this time the Great King will be a very old man).
Hence all justice will cease, or all will be trodden under foot'
(this last paragraph quoted from a letter to The Holy Roman
Emperor, Conrad in the year 1159)

10 - Werdin D'Otrante (13th Century) Abbot in Otranto, Province
of Lecce in Southern Italy.
'The Great Monarch and the great Pope will precede Antichrist.
Nations will be at war for four years and a great part of the world
will be destroyed. The Pope will go over the sea carrying the sign
of Redemption on his forehead. The Great Monarch will come to
restore peace and the Pope will share in the victory. Peace will
reign on earth.'

11 - John of Vatiguerro (13th Century)
'Spoilation, pillaging, and devastation of that most famous city
which is the capital and mistress of France will take place when
the Church and the world are grievously troubled. The Pope will
change his residence and the Church will not be defended for
25 months or more because, during that time, there will be no Pope
in Rome, no emperor and no ruler in France. But after this, a young
captive Prince shall recover the Crown of the Lilies and shall
extend his dominions all over the world.

12 - St. Vincent Ferrer (14th Century) - had gift of tongues.
(people heard him speaking their native language even though
he wasn't) He prophecied many times.
'Armies from the West, East, and North will fight together in Italy,
and the Eagle shall capture the false king, and all things shall be
made obedient unto him, and there shall be a new reformation
in the world.

13 - St. Bridget of Sweden (14th Century)
'The most unhappy war will end, when an emperor of Spanish
origin will be elected who will in a wonderful manner be victorious
through the sign of the Cross .. He will restore the Church in
Santa Sophia (in Constantinople) and all the earth shall enjoy
peace and prosperity, and new cities will be erected in many
places.

14 - St. Francis of Paula (15th Century) Italy. Performed miracles.
Raised people and animals from the dead. Prophecied.
In a letter to Limena he says 'From your lordship will be born
(a future descendant) the great leader of the Holy Militia of
The Holy Spirit which shall overcome the world, and shall possess
the earth so completely that no king or lord shall be able to exist,
except he belongs to the Sacred Host of the Holy Ghost.....
He shall destroy all tyrants and heresies. There will be one fold
and one shepherd. He shall reign until the end of time. One the
whole earth there will be twelve Kings, one Emperor and one
Pope.

15 - Ven. Bartholomew Holzhauser (17th Century) Augsburg Germany.
'the fifth period of the Church, which began circa 1520, will end with the
arrival of the Holy Pope and the powerful Monarch who is called
"Help from God" because he will restore everything (in Christ).

16 - Rudolph Gekner (17th Century) - Augsburg Germany
'A Great Prince of the North with a most powerful army will
traverse all Europe, uproot all the republics, and defeat all the rebels.
His sword moved by divine power will most valiantly defend the
Church of Jesus Christ.

17 - Capuchin Friar (18th Century) - found in the library of the
Capuchin Fathers in Genzano near Rome dated 1776.
Note - Caroligian refers to descendants of Charlamagne.
'A scion of the Carolingian race, by all considered extinct,
will come to Rome and behold and admire the piety and
clemency of this Pontiff, who will crown him, and declare him to
be legitimate Emperor of the Romans. He shall destroy the Ottoman
(Arab) Empire and all heresies. With the assistance o God and of
the Pope, he will cooperate in the reformation of abuses; he will
assume the direction of temporal governments; he will assign a
decent pension to the Pope and also the biships and clergy. And
they all will live in peace and shall last till the End of Time.'

18 - Br. Louis Rocco (19th Century)
'A Great King will arise after a period of terrible wars and persecutions'

19 - Nursing Nun of Belay (19th Century)
'A saint raises his arms to Heaven: he allays the wrath of God. He
ascends the throne of Peter. At the same time, the Great Monarch
ascends the throne of his ancestors. All is quiet now. Altars are
set up again; religion comes to life again.'

20 - St. John Vianney, The Cure of Ars (19th Century) made prophecies.
'The enemy (the Prussians) will allow the burning of Paris, and they will
rejoice at it, but they shall be beaten; they shall be driven entirely from
France. Our enemies shall return, and will destroy everything in their
march. They shall arrive near Poitiers without meeting any serious
resistance, but there they shall be crushed by the defenders of the West,
who shall pursue them. From other directions their provisions shall be
cut off, and they shall suffer very serious losses. They will attempt to
retire towards their country, but very few of them shall ever reach it.

The Communists of Paris, after their defeat, shall spread themselves
through all France, and will be greatly multiplied. They shall seize arms;
they shall opress the people of order. Lastly, a civil war shall break out
everywhere. These wicked people shall become masters in the North,
East and Southwest of France. They will imprison very many persons,
and ill be guilty of more massacres. They will attempt to kill all the priests
and all the relious. But this shall not last long. People will imagine that
all is lost; but the good God shall save all. It will be like a sign of the last
judgement ... God shall come to help; the good shall triumph when the
return of the king shall be announced. This shall reestablish a peace
and propserity without example. Religious shall fourish again better
than ever before.

21 - Abbe Souffrand (19th Century)
'The reign of the Great King, the noblest virtues will be practiced
throughout the world, and the land will yeild abundant crops.

22 - Sister Marianne - (19th Century) Ursuline nun in Blois.
Predicted many things.
'It is then that the Prince shall reign, whom people did not
esteem before, but whom they shall then seek. The triumph of
religion will be so great that no one has ever seen the equal. All
injustices will be made good; civil laws will be made in harmony with
the laws of God and of the Church. Education in schools will be Christian
and the workers' guilds will flourish again.'

23 - The Ecstatic of Tours (19th Century) Nun in Tours France.
The French people will ask for the good King, he who was chosen
by God. He will come, this saviour whom God has spared for France,
this king who is not wanted now because he is dear to God's heart.
He will ascend to the throne; he will free the Church and reassert
the Pope's rights.

24 - Bl. Anna-Maria Taigi (19th Century) mystic. Made many prophecies
that came true.
'France shall fall into a frightful anarchy. The French shall have a
desperiate civil war in the course of which old men themselves will
take up arms. The political parties, having exhausted their blood and
their rage without being able to arrive at any satisfactory understanding,
shall at the last extremity agree by common consent to have recourse
to the Holy See. Then the Pope shall send to France a special legate
... In consequence of the information received, his Holiness himself
shall nominate a most Christian king for the government of France.

I put the prophecies under the name of the person who said it.
I also put some info about that person next to their name.
You can see that some are from France, Some from Germany,
Some from England ..... and you can see what century they lived.

Nice post. Did you compile this list from several sources or was there one source that you used?

a French King and monarchy reborn? A 'Great' French King even

No one really knows what the future holds, perhaps this one:

Then the Pope shall send to France a special legate
... In consequence of the information received, his Holiness himself
shall nominate a most Christian king for the government of France.

Is prophesizing that one day the French will return to a monarchy. Or perhaps the term 'King' is refering to a singular leader leading a communist government, or maybe a totalitarian government. You never know...

This is a pretty anarchic time, as are most from the earlier portion of the list.. Most of it looks like wish fufilment to tell the truth. The christian order was having some problems, and there were heathens surrounding the empire and then the empire itself fell apart. Pagan barbarians came to run most of europe at these times. For example, the Langobards ran Italy for a long time, their influence was enough that the boot was called Langobarida for a long while. Also a 'great king' in this context could be little more than a tribal cheif. The 'world' he is talking about is probably the known world, or the roman world, in effect they did conquer the 'whole world'.

'Take notice that the Kingdom of France

Keep in mind that this is a very very different france. This is post-end of the empire france. "france' was a very large and populous part of europe in these times and was very civilized, especially compared to the wild forests that made up germany.

These are classic examples of wishful thinking (to quote Nygdan) laid out as prophecy for the purpose of countering the political climate of the day. One need only see the progression throughout the centuries to note that the places and kings of importance revolved around the Vatican's principal seat-the country of its residence.

The Papal seat was established in France with the gifting of the Lateran Cathedral by Constantine to the bishop of Rome. It was from France until the early 14th century that popes ruled with the backing of the French emperors. It was not until then that Italy became the papal seat, hence the prophetic shift to Italy. The Germanic theme was obviously as a result of the long and destructive power struggles for political and religious authority in Germany, which were settled only for a short while just before the rise of Hitler.

There is therefore nothing mysterious about any of these nor do they have any bearing on the future.

BOOKS ...

'Trial, Tribulation & Triumph - Before, During and After Antichrist'
'Prophecies! - The Chastisement and Purification'
'The Three Days of Darkness'
biography - St. John Vianney (Cure of Ars)
biography - Bl. Anna Maria Taigi
biography - St. Bridget of Sweden

I also looked through Catherine Emmerich but I didn't see anything
on this subject in her VAST prophecies and visions. That doesn't
mean it isn't there .. it could be that I just didn't see it.

Oh, I agree. Most of it looks to me to be wishful thinking.

Some of these came from outside of France, so I'm not sure
why a German or someone from England would wish to be
lead under a French King ... but for the most part I think it's
wishful thinking.

The reason I posted it was just in case folks were interested
AND the fact that some of these folks are well known visionaries
and have made numerous prophecies that came true. That doesn't
mean that everything they say will happen ... but some DO have
a good track record.

Something I find interesting. If this were something that was
really going to happen, then I would think that others would
still be prophecising it. I know that all prophecy is contingent
and fluid and that the future can change ... but still ... there
hasn't been a prophecy about this in a long time -
a Great French King restoring the French Monarchy
before the Antichrist comes ...

If it were going to happen, I would think that the 'prophecies'
would still be continuing.

At any rate, at least these are some DIFFERENT prophecies to chat
about ... instead of the usual stuff.

hmmmm

I am skeptical about prophecies because they are often very vague and can be interpreted in many ways.
For the sake of discussion though I shall assume that "french king" prophecies are true prophecies.

There is a very real possibility of a new great french king: french president of European Union. Anyone thought of that?

Untill recently, the predictions about the french king were not likely to come true, no other big european country would accept the rule of foreign "king".
Now that we have EU, nobody would say a thing.
The Presidency of the Council of EU rotates every 6 months among the member states, so it is possible that during the french presidency these prophecies will come true. The next date they are due for presidency is july through december 2008.

It can also refer to the President of European Parliament. The current president is Josep Borrell Fontelles from Spain. The next will be chosen in 2007.

I suspect something to do with Nostradamus, I read his prophecies really early on in my early teens. Anything can get Taken Out of Context by anyone. Prophecies can will out as strange enchantments to force Invisible Hands or even Allure a Populace to Hysteria.

The theory that the French are in on in the End Times fascinates me. It flies straight back to the Elizabethan Era from Britain and Beyond.

I don't buy it, I was informed for ages that a King of the World would hail in the beginning of the 21st Century as Y2K kicked in . It didn't. He was said to form a second coming, a rapture, in the likeness of King David (supposedly Solomon) or the Maitreya or Kalki, presumably his ID remains secret as the Gold in the Swiss Banks. Remember Project Vampire Killer 2000 it was Patriots in America ready to launch a bloody Civil War to fight the NWO, nothing happened.

FEAR I call it. Crisis or Conflict Engineering.

Yep. A lot of these were written in a time of Royalty - not of elected
officials. So perhaps a president could have been seen as a 'king'.

Prophecy is a funny thing. You 'see' things, but in translation to
earth bound langauage things get changed and/or presented in
a form that we can understand.

So yes an elected official could very well be a 'king'.
At least I think so.

FlyersFan, if I get it right, you must be a Roman Catholic Christian.

I am of the Orthodox (the Eastern) Church. There are tons of prophecies we also have that seem to be matching with the prophecies of the Catholics: a great world war with Russia turning Europe into a battlefield, the re-union of the Churches, even an Emperor.
Since Orthodoxy is rather bound with nations, instead of having the global character Roman Catholicism has, we have prophecies from different Patriarchates, for example from Constantinoplean territories (Greece + Minor Asia), or from territories belonging to the Moscow Patriarchate (Russia).

The Greek prophets seem to view a Holy Emperor, who will be Greek.
The Russian prophets seem to view a God-annointed Tsar, who will be from Greece, but he will be of the Romanovs, from his maternal line.

Catholic prophecies seem to focus on a King for Central Europe. For example, in one prophesy it was written that the King you await will be of german descent, but he will be french etc etc.

Instead, I would not focus on a French King, but on a multinational Emperor, for all Christians.
If this isn't so, then there will be many such Kings, chosen by God.

As to the part about the Catholic chuch being the only pure christian church as one of the "prophecies" said, it seems easy to see why considering the GOP image branding of Christianity on the hide of its megalithic elephant arse by the likes of that curmudgeon Pat Robertson and so many others.

Aside from that, those prophecies seem strangely non-prophetic. Pardon my interuption.

Stupid edit...erased my entire last message.

French king could refer to a Merovingian king, as all the British monarchy are descended from Merovee, an ancient French king who, as legend has it, had two fathers. Charlemagne is descended from him. (I'm descended from the Plantagenets.)

Prince William would be the only king to be descended from all the Merovingian lines, if I have it right.

There is also a legend related to Louis XVI, the king of France who was beheaded during the Revolution... many who looked at Nostradamus' and others' prophecies believed that at some point the real and rightful descendant of that king's son - Louis XVII, who died in prison at age 10 in 1795, but whose death was shrouded in mystery - would show up and reclaim the throne of France, under one form or another.

It sounds a lot like the legends about King Arthur returning to save England in her day of greatest danger.

Now I never heard about the legend of Louis XVII. I should look it up--sounds interesting!

Wouldn't it be interesting if either Charles or William took on the name Arthur II? Arthur is also a middle name of Prince Charles.

Amethyst - to make a long story short, when the French Republic was proclaimed in August 1792, Louis XVI and his family were imprisoned in the Templar fortress in Paris. After the king was guillotined in January 1793, his 7-year old son, the Dauphin, was proclaimed king as Louis XVII by the monarchists still fighting in the countryside (eventually they were defeated). The Dauphin was kept in a secluded cell and died from bad treatment in 1795... however, a number of people believed he had actually been smuggled away and replaced by another child. Hence, in the following years, a large number of false Dauphins appeared - the most famous of which, Karl Naundorff, is actually buried in the Netherlands under the name "Louis XVII".

A few years ago, the poor kid's heart, which had been kept by in formol by the doctor after the autopsy and handed down through the generations, was submitted to a DNA analysis and compared with the DNA from a strand of hair belonging to Queen Marie-Antoinette. They matched.

Maybe it's time to take those creaky 'King of the Franks" prophecies to the next level. Try and work Cayce's 1936 'John Peniel' prophecy into Nosty's Epistile to Henri, where both predictions mention a simple man, meeting the real "First Monarch of the Universe, at least after 1936. So Nosty's Henri, really equates with Edgar Cayce's 'John Peniel'. This First Monarch, of course, "Reigns from everlasting, unto everlasting". John Charles de Fontbrune's English translator, Alexis Lyciard, gets very close to this watershed.
