filter posts in Todays Posts

Topic started on 20-8-2003 @ 11:51 AM by ktprktpr

A cool feature would be the ability to filter the posts by board topic in "Todays Posts" that way someone wouldn't have to wade through, say, stuff from the Mud Pit.

Now if one of you mods ever got back to me about programming your own features I could've done this already...

Huh?

And the whole idea with "today's posts" is to see... um... today's posts!... not just some of today's posts. If you go to each forum... threads are sorted by most recently active from top-down.

well it was just an idea ... what if I were an ATS old timer who didn't like to look at chit chat thread, Mud Pit and US Politics. But they wanted to look at everythign else. It should be pretty easy to filter Today's Posts. So that would Today's Posts: That You Care About.

And the bit about ats programming, I u2u'ed several people but never got a reply. The basic idea was to let other people code features and you could reject them or accept them. Are XMB 1.8 Partagium boards open source?

ktpr, William

I would call that feature proposed and under discussion 'Ignore Forum' rather than 'Filter Posts'.

I had a similar inclination a while back.

But sometimes you are forced to see a whole menu without being asked to order everything on it.

I don't remember getting one... but I get a sh#tload.

In a nut-shell... there's not much XMB code left that hasn't been untouched in some way. So it would be very hard for someone else to create additional programming. Even much of the database structure has been changed.

However... that doesn't preclude add-ons. If you'd like to program a new chat tool... we'd be all for that! The current severly-hacked phpMyChat is an underperforming piece of crap. I'm considering moving to something done in Shockwave for improved performance and reliability.

" there's not much XMB code left that hasn't been untouched in some way"

Well if it's open source you should release the changes, but I guess I understand why you wouldn't want to.

Coding a chat tool is whole other bag of worms. Actually, with Flash MX it should be "fairly easy" but I don't know enough action script and comm. server.

I don't understand why people (who can) use coding to improve conspiracy related interaction and research. I guess it takes to much time? Pisses me off, to be frank.

flash chat engine: www.flashkit.com...

XMB is technically not open source... though plenty of people make and publish hacks. I'm very close to having made enough modifications to begin saying "derrived from XMB 1.8" reather than "powered by"

If you'd like to start an open source project dedicated to developing conspiracy-tracking tools and databases, let me know. It might be something I'm willing to support (I operate the dedicated server ATS is running on). Send me a u2U and we can exchange e-mails.

I've seen some Flash chat applications that might work, but Director-authored shockwave would provide better overall performance for something like chat.
