Let's take a look at the probable source of the "rumors"

www.freepressinternational.com...

then is one of the most ridiculous rumours that I have heard in awhile.
Let's break this down a bit hear:
The US Navy has a total of eight ships in that area, note, that is the exact number of ships that are reported by the US navy as being based out of the rock

Second problem..... where is the best place in the world to be when a tsunami such as what occured Boxer day is..... at sea! There have been numerous reports of fisherman from the hardest hit areas who were not even aware of what had occured until they headed for shore.

European and Pacific Stars & Stripes

I sincerely hope that this is not what the UN is basing thier accusations on.

For those who need some information on the rock

Where in the World Is Diego Garcia?

Here is a good article by MSNBC on DG and the tsunami

Tsunami spares U.S. base in Diego Garcia

Note this info os covered on the thread below

Why are these the probable sources? Also, the first article you link to cites the Sunday Mail, which while not the best paper in the world is still no lightweight.

Actually, it's more of like asking "When did you stop beating your wife?"

Then pointing out loudly "oh, so you deny ever beating your wife?"

The media runs with it and you're screwed. Or, just like the recent "So when did the military stop torturing prisoners?". Same crap, politics and media spin to cast a little more doubt on the opponents of the UN.

It bothers me that the attribution for these "rumors" is the UN.

If these allegations are true, then they would be serious.

Who has made these allegations, though? Not the "raportuer," apparently; he is just rapporting what he has . . . what, overheard in the hallway? Or from a speaker on the floor of the general assembly? Read from a fortune cookie? Or maybe posted on a conspiracy web site? Or something he heard when he played "stairway to heaven" backwards?

I heard a rumor, too. It's that the UN is making **** up about the Bush administration, as a payback for uncovering the oil for food scam.

This is kind of like saying, " I hear that you beat your wife."

Even if you are not married, everyone starts looking at you a bit funny.

Still, you never know.
