I'm not sure, if that subject (baby boom market bust) was ever discussed in this forum (I'm not sure also, in what section of ATS, this fall into).

Since, I couldn't find it, so what do you think, are we heading into economic disaster, when all those baby boomers will start liquidating their assets (in big number and all at the same time) ?

I'm planning to retire in early 2012, at 55 years of age, so this concerns me.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.: I'm from Québec, Canada, so the situation will be slightly different, than in the USA.

Why does retirement from employment correlate with liquidation of assets in every case?

Quite simple, most people won't have saved enough, the employer pension will not be enough, the cost of living, rising healthcare cost, etc. will force most (if not all) baby boomers to slowly liquidate their assets.

The problem came from all the baby boomers doing it at the same time (more or less), therefore selling lot of stock share (with fewer young people to buy it, resulting in massive price devalue).

Make sense ?
