Infant formula ranks so high in supermarket shoplifting, that it needs to be placed under lock and key. Are the reasons for this theft linked to funding terrorism, resale on the so called “gray market”, something even more sinister like missing children (see the link to Ocelot‘s thread below), or the inability of families to afford the skyrocketing prices of this necessity?

"There is a point in time when you have to protect your assets," said Ted Seal, general manager of a Super Fresh store near Bethlehem that locked up its supply about a month ago because thieves had been stealing it by the caseload. Customers now must ask a manager to unlock a case near the front.

In Tennessee, authorities made two traffic stops along highways within the past year that netted more than 4,500 cans of stolen Similac and Enfamil powdered formula.
