SOFTWARE protection companies are warning that a vicious new form of cyber-attack known as "ransomware" is threatening computers by encrypting documents and demanding money for them to be decrypted.

Unlike a virus, a Trojan horse does not replicate from machine to machine.

Why?? do people do this

Sounds pretty bad if It went millitary grade, but currently it's not that big of the threat, leave to the press to help give people ideas though... -media:1 our pc's: 0- Anyways, you asked why? Simple, people want money, ransomwhere, asks for money. Other people are just bored (IE cell phone hackers) Ultimately this just goes to prove that the Internet is the most powerful weapon we have. Imagine if a main gov. server got completely encrypted in a weaker country? You could hold them ransom for millions..

This so called threat is just a lot of hype as there is little to know chance of anything of importance would be affected. There is also a weakness in there thinking with the money trail being left with a payoff being next to impossible to hide in this day and age.

Why?? do people do this

Because 12 year olds get bored easily.
Seriously.
Do they know there is virtually no chance of getting money? Of course. Duh. Is it still fun to them? Absolutely.
