Nice psychological tweak here: It challenges you and sets you up for the "Hey, THIS WILL BE DANGEROUS" fluffery that comes later.

fix the mirror tightly into a frame. like a thick wooden picture frame.

Okay... some psych tricks here. Your mind will see the details "about 50 cm square" and your subconscious translates this message into "wow! I can't use just ANYThing! This is Dangerous and Important!!!!"

This is the "ooo factor" for the id.

So your body tenses in anticipation. Your heart gets going and if you're very susceptible, your adrenaline starts ramping up a little bit. This makes you tense and hyperalert.

make sure the mirror is tight and strongly fitted, or believe me YOU WILL LIVE TO REGRET IT ...IT WILL CAUSE A MISTAKE TO HAPPEN A MISTAKE YOU WILL NEVER EVER BE ABLE TO PUT RIGHT. SO DO NOT RUSH THIS FRAME.

This is a real gem and the key to making this "trick" work -- you announce that something dreadful will happen if they don't follow instructions and if nothing happens there's an "out" (well, gee! It wasn't EXACTLY 50 cm, now was it?)

We'll call this the "Scare Tactic" so you can see how it's used. Notice that after each explaination you get a Scare Tactic, which ramps up your alertness.

Now mount the frame on a small table with legs about 25 cm high. make sure the mirror is on the top of the table. when you look on the table you can see yourself.

More of the "exact measurement" nonsense, designed to get your subconscious going. Your subconscious is what makes this "work."

AND BELIEVE YOU ME, MAKE SURE THE WHOLE SET UP IS STURDY AND STRONG....OR YOULL REGRET IT.

The Scare Tactic again. If you're the silly victim who's doing this and setting yourself up for it, you'll be breathing a sigh of relief when NOTHING HAPPENS. But your Id will be saying "Oh wow! This stuff really works and I'm okay so far but now the REALLY bad thing happens!!!"

NOW make your way down to a shallow running river. not a still river.

Because you can't get shadows in still water... more about that later.

EVENTUALLY WHEN YOU BECOME MESMERISED WITH THE MIRROR, YOU WILL CEASE TO SEE YOUR OWN REFLECTIONS IN THE MIRROR AND THE REFLECTION OF THE RUNNING WATER, AND A KIND OF DARK SHAPE OF ONE FORM OR ANOTHER WILL APPEAR IN THE MIRROR.

Doncha just LOVE This one?? The AllCaps Fear Factor sets you up for seeing the shadows in the water... create by sunlight not striking that area of the water.

This is why it doesn't work in still water.

(note: you could do this in a bathtub if you liked as long as you kept the water going so that it'd do ripples.)

This shape is an existing being, that is alive like you and i, but it is of a different form. it will be kind of dull, and looking at it will frighten you.

The writer very kindly tells your id that "it's a horrid nasty demon and it's going to SCARE you to death -- are you holding ON to that mirror???" Your subconscious is now freaking at shadows.

but stay and keep staring at it, because it is also staring at you. now if you or your friend gets really scarred, to the thing that is looking at you, it will see this fear as a vibrant display of one form or another, and this is very attractive to this kind of being, and then it will try and come out of the mirror to BE WITH YOU ...

By this time, the scare factor will have you imagining faces in your cereal bowl. At this point, someone could tell you that the Evil Milkman in your Post Toasties is going to pull you into the bowl and your id would probably BELIEVE this.

TO BE CLOSE TO YOU AND TO ...GET THIS.....STAY WITH YOU FOREVER AND EVER. EVEN when you are 100 years old and dying, this being will be next to you if you let it get out of the mirror.... trust me.

That's weak, actually. The "even when you are 100 years old and dying" sounds like it was written by a 10 year old. However, your id is so freaked out it believes this stuff by this point.

you will know it is trying to get out of the mirror, because the mirror will start getting kind of dragged about in the water by some mysterious force, IT WILL START TO FLAIL AROUND.

This is known as the water current.

But you slept through science class, right?

this is when you must pull that mirror clean out of the water WITHOUT BREAKING IT.

More "Ooo factor" and Scare Tactics"

IF IT BREAKS ...YOU HAVE JUST GOT YOURSELF A NEW MATE...THAT IS WHY I STRESS THE WHOLE SET UP HAS TO BE VERY STRONG.

You've got soaking wet furniture that you've held in a stream for 30 minutes or so and you're trying to lift it straight up. What's the chances the mirror will break off?

Well... it's not impossible.

it may be difficult to get the mirror out of the water, but if you run off and leave it in the water. the thing will still come out and believe me it will catch you in 100th of a second.

Freakout complete. You can see any number of guys running screaming from the river over this one.

...and after that, it devolves into a "you have an invisible friend like you did when you were a kid" sort of thing and "talk to your invisible imaginary friend and make friends with him."

So... amusing bit of psychology and based on some stuff that fake psychics and stage magicians do. They could have you seeing purple cows with this sort of setup.

To make this "trick" work, they give you all the info (as stated in the nicely quoted and picked apart rendition above). However, the one thing that they cannot make work, is make you believe it.

I believe anything is possible, as long as the person trying it BELIEVES that it is possible and that it WILL work. If there is any doubt, it most likely will not work.

EXACTLY - if you can't talk to it - what's the point? And it seems for the most part they aren't exactly 'friendly in nature' anyway. Even the ones who seem freindly - it seems they trick you into trusting them and hit you with something later.
I'm now 34 years old - that's alot of years to be dabbeling in this stuff and in all that time I have now a total of 4 who are trustworthy, honest and considered a 'friend' - tried and true so to speak.

i will probably try it, but only if someone does it first. To be honest im kinda scared messin around with that sort of thing

I am starting to believe supermarket tabloids before some e-mails going around these days. I love the e-mails that say if I dont forward it to 10 people I'll have bad luck for 7 years, talk about being put on the spot. Yeah right.

I am going to have to pass on this one. All the prep and setup reminds me of calling demons in ritual magik. Nowhere in this ritual are any steps made to protect one from what "may" come through the mirror.

Ancient peoples built round houses as a way of keeping out evil. 90 degree angles are supposed to provide a doorway to other dimensions. Also without any corners in their houses there was no place for evil to hide.

The mirror setup mentioned has lots of 90 degree corners to invite evil in.

I hope that nobody tries this. It may work. It may not. Why try it? Is there not enough evil in our world already??

i have read many of your threads, And i am always amazed how they come to you...
I would love to be able to hear them, As i belive i have many round me, But i tend to get scared of what i am not sure of..

Looking down into a mirror,under water,you would see your own shadow against the sky above,holding your breath under water naturally makes you anxious because it is not your natural environment,it is actually a hostile environment.The image you see in the mirror would be unclear because the eyes do not focus correctly under water.
It could be scary,but I think it would be your imagination.

The fact that anyone would take this serious is a testament to the idiocy of humanity.
