The legendary source "Deep Throat" in the Watergate scandal that brought down a president was identified Tuesday by Vanity Fair magazine and The Washington Post as W. Mark Felt.

Felt, now 91, was the No. 2 official at the FBI in the early 1970s. The information he provided Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein helped them break many of the stories that led to the resignation of President Nixon in August 1974.

The revelation ended more than three decades of speculation about Woodward and Bernstein's famous confidential source in reporting on the cover-up by the Nixon White House following the bungled break-in of National Democratic Committee headquarters at the Watergate office-hotel-apartment complex on June 17, 1972.

The articles say it all. Felts family claim is an American Hero.
Is Mark felt a Hero?
What comes first the truth or his loyality to the Whitehouse?
The simple answer appears to be that truth is more important then any loyalty to the Nixion administration.

I dont think we we ever know for sure who deep throat was.
Could Mark Felt be covering for someone else in the Nixion administration?
If so who?
Why reveal the truth now?
So far the FBI has withheld coment perhaps Mark Felt is relying on his age to avoid any proscution. No doubt a new wave of conspiracy theroys will emerge on the back of Mark Felts claims.
