An Iraqi man grieves for his brother after the Tikrit attack
Suicide bombers have set off a wave of blasts in Iraq, killing at least 71 people and injuring more than 100 in the bloodiest day since February.
The deadliest bombings were in Tikrit, where at least 33 died, and the town of Hawija, where at least 32 were killed.

The attacks continue an upsurge in violence that has claimed more than 400 lives since the start of May, as US forces fight rebels in the west.

The more we hear about how well things are beginning to stabilize, the more we hear about attacks by suicide bombers.
In recent weeks the upsurge in these bombings has become more and more frequent. Nearly every day we are hearing or reading about some other attack.
As the news item quotes, the insurgents know they are running out of time, hence the sudden wave of suicide bombings.
Most news media are covering this and all seem to have slightly differing accounts of the total killed.
