LAS VEGAS - Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid called President Bush "a loser" during a civics discussion with a group of teenagers at a high school on Friday.

"The man's father is a wonderful human being," Reid, D-Nev., told students at Del Sol High School when asked about the president's policies. "I think this guy is a loser."

Shortly after the event Reid called the White House to apologize, his spokeswoman Tessa Hafen said. Reid spoke with Bush adviser Karl Rove, asking him to convey the apology to Bush, who was traveling in Europe.

The Nevada Democrat expressed "regret for the comments, that it was inappropriate," Hafen said. Reid was giving a late speech in Salt Lake City and was unavailable for comment, she said.

Harry Reid is a loser for even making a public statement like that and then going back on his beliefs. If he honestly believes Bush is a loser then stick with it. Anyway, this just fuels the notion that the entire democratic party are a bunch of reneging cry babies.

He's a shining paragon of virtue telling high school students that the President is a "loser"...how refined.

Certainly his mistake was apologizing for his own opinion. Very bad choice to forfeit a portion of your character like that. Bush hasn't apologized for any of the colossally bad actions of his administration, so why should Reid bother apologizing for mere words? Stupid move.

Bush isn't a loser. He's a murdering lying criminal, but not a loser. If he was in jail over what he's done, he would be a loser.

"The president is a loser? And a C student? I CAN BECOME PRESIDENT!"

Whatever, who cares? Politics=High School.

Say something like that, don't faulter (flip-flop, even) and move on to go hang out with the cheerleaders.
