I for one hope the young lady survives and does well in the pageant.

I don't see a reason why she shouldn't survive. Saudi Arabia has made a lot of progress recently in granting women more freedom. They got a right to drive cars, attend concerts, work in the fields previously available only for men and travel without the permission of the male guardian. The country is also more open to foreign influence, has been developing tourism and trying to attract foreign investors. Sure, it's not yet a Western feminist ideal but the recent reforms have been a giant leap forward for such a conservative society.
