Declassified Cold War Satellite Photos Reveal Hundreds of Roman-Era Forts

I was looking for something almost totally unrelated to this and said to myself..."SELF?", this seems pretty cool to share, so I am.

It's too bad that these photos are decades old as all the conflict and strife may have eradicated many of these forts. Cool thing is archaeologists are thinking these weren't military defenses so much as aid to travelers, where there horses and camels and themselves could get refuge. I do wonder why these haven't been found by more recent and much better tech these days but at least we have some evidence of these forts.

Thankyou, this is really cool. I wonder what other archeological sites are invisible on the ground, though awaiting overhead images to show the remains of structures yet to be released.

Though how many archeological sites are kept secret for reasons.

These stops could potentially boost the local villages economies since they would be able to sell their products at the nearest rest stop to passing traders.
