In a nation where the poor and old cannot afford health care, in a nation where the economy is falling apart, in a nation where 44 million people live on less than $12,000 dollars a year, in a nation where over 2 million people are homeless, in a nation where the entire media system is owned by only six media mega conglomerates, in a nation with the world's highest crime rate, in a nation with the world's largest prison population, in a nation where 60% of marriages end in divorce, in a nation where 25% of kids under 12 live in poverty, in a nation where the gulf between the rich and poor is growing everyday, in a nation that supports dictatorships in Saudi, Egypt, and Turkey, in a nation where the government is full of corruption, in a nation where 40 percent of the homeless are VETERANS, in a nation with the world's highest teen suicide and stress rates, and you're telling me our biggest problems are TERRORISM and DRUGS?

Well, I would say drugs are a much bigger problem than terrorism. Whatever happened to the War On Drugs?

The war on drugs is a joke, especially when you consider the biggest drug dealer in the history of the world was the CIA under the direction of George Bush Sr. The war on drugs exists so corrupt cops can stuff their pockets with cash and their garages with sports cars and boats that supposedly belong to "drug dealers". The really sad part is that even when people are found innocent of the drug charges against them, they are still not gonna get their stolen property back. It would be far more economical for the country to legalize marijuana.

I fall under that under $12,000 mark. Parents are about to kick me out of the house because "I need to get into the real world". Im only 19, corporate america doesnt take me seriously because im young and dont have a college degree. I know a ton about computers but no degree to back it up.

Here is an idea I had once,

Instead of offering Turkey $29 billion dollars (maybe it wasnt this much but it was a lot i remember) to use an airbase for an unjust war, use the taxpayers money a little more wisely such as....

Free job training.

Free is a very attractive word. The more people with better paying jobs will spend their money and stimulate the economy thus creating even more jobs. Instead we are losing jobs and people are unable to get jobs.

Its not a very hard concept but what do i know.

Just a thought.

Military, in particular US Air Force, is good but not everyone can get in ( heart problems, etc) or just dont want to risk their lives.

In my opinion free job training using tax dollars will be more effective. If not free then very low cost with the help of tax dollars.

I think I was 19 once and I didn't like corporate America, so I didn't have much use for them. Still do not care for them. On the other hand they produce some excellent medicine that prolongs longevity and health. A great deal of the money that develops this R+D comes from our tax dollars. This begs the question, why then is it so expensive for americans to acquire medication when we can give billions of dollars worth to other nations.
As far as your parents go son, they may be correct. This is going to sound like an old guy, but I left home at 15 and never looked back. Just two years ago my mother could no longer care for herself so I went thru great lengths and expense [personal and financial] to place her in assisted living quarters.
My 21 yr old daughter came out of school with staight A's went to Padre Island and has been pissing in the sand since[I have faith she will snap out of it] My 18 year old son goofed his way thru with E+D's even in Phys Ed. Only A+B he received were in Art, Video Production, Pottery, and Woodshop. He had to go to summer school till 9 @ night just to get a diploma to get out. Allthough I think they just didn't want him back!
At any rate he left his mothers house and got a job through his woodworking teacher building homes in Willow Creek Ca. Running crews at 18 dollars an hour sun up to sun down. He and his girlfriend have purchased a small pink house in Santa Cruz and are both going to scool in the fall. He at community college for art while he continues with work, his boss now has him running CAD to design prints his girl is to the University to study Architecture like her well know Argentinian fathe in the same field.
So now you ask whats the point? The point is you can stay at home and listen to your parents bitch'in or you can go piss in the sand or you can go do what you enjoy doing with a good attitude and all else will fall into place. Trust me on this.\
Oh by the way I agree with you, more money aimed at what comes natural to young people and job training in that area would do more for our culture and society than craming their heads into a box filled with useless pointless knowledge relative to the masses. Give them what they need and will use. You know different strokes for different folks. Some will label this communistic or socialistic it is neither it is common since. Education in our culture has become a mold and our educators are trying to hammer everyone into that mold and stamp them complete. Try growing food that way!
Keep up the good work son at least you are here and thinking. Work will be found, after all you want to consume don't you LOL

Check into temp agencies. There are plenty of entry level jobs that only require computer skill, not degrees, that you can likely get, starting at around $20,000 at least, in most urban areas. Most of these are temp to perm, and sure beats flippin' burgers, baggin' groceries, or stocking shelves.... Hope this hint works for you....as your parents are right. You're 19, done with high school, so it's time to either move on to college, or start making your own way.

yeah dont get me wrong, i want to move out of my parents house, only a loser would bum off of them for the rest of their lives.

Problem is I am extremely underpaid at where I work. I work at a grocery store doing accounting type work and only make $740 a month on average. I have to go in sometimes from 10p to 6 am and risk getting robbed as there are only 2 people besides me and the video cameras dont even work, heck im the only one that ever tries to get it the things to work. I'm not there everyday so I cannot maintain them.

I feel my work is more important to the company than stocking shelves, bagging groceries, or scanning groceries, coroporate offices depend on the reports that i send them in and in return i get a laughable paycheck.

My knowledge of computers is pretty advanced I would say. I have made many web pages have set up and run message boards that look very similar to this one. Family and friends always come to me when they have computer problems. Boss at work even gets me to try and fix stuff with the computers.

I know some advanced programming, not just web page design.

The computer I'm using right now was built completely from scratch by me.

Not trying to brag but you would think i could find something good out there.

Was thinking of becoming a security guard though... they have to make more than $700 a month. Just to help me get my own place.

take my advice, try the temps.

Security Guards don't get paid jack, even if you are licensed to be an armed one (I know, I did it part time while I was in college)....

Another idea may be to post ads at local colleges and libraries for cheap web-design, and/or computer training. My old roomate did this on the side and earned some pretty nice spending dough, all while having a full-time job as well.
