Should Soviet troops have captured Adolf Hitler and taken him to Vienna to be executed?

It's understandable that the Soviet government initially dismissed the German government's announcement of Adolf Hitler's death as propaganda to bolster the image of Hitler as a heroic leader defending Germany from "Bolshevist Jewry", but eventually realized that Hitler killed himself after Soviet troops entered the Fuhrerbunker in Berlin. However, would it have been better if Soviet troops had found Hitler in the Fuhrerbunker and handcuffed him so that he could be flown to Vienna to put in an electric chair, asked by the Soviet occupation authorities in the Soviet sector of Vienna how he could just his evil deeds, and eventually electrocuted and his body thrown into the banks of the Danube River?

no, hitler just didn't attack the ussr, he attacked all of europe and much of the rest of the world.
if captured he should have been tried just like the rest of the POS's and a filmed hanging without a hood.
the ussr wasn't nothing special and didn't rate any special consideration.

What difference do you propose it would have made?

I honestly believe he took a U-Boat to South America, long before Berlin fell.

The rest? Most of them ended up either fleeing to South America or the "useful" ones were admonished of their crimes and integrated into the US scientific community.

I agree there is enough circumstantial evidence to believe he made it out and a body double got to take the fall.

but we will never know for sure.

It's fun to speculate, the Boys from Brazil is one of my favorite movies, but damn as efficient as Mossad was/is no way would they have left Hitler breathing, if he escaped it was because he had serious help, or was protected by another government or entity

This. The Soviets should have been much better prepared for either cornering Hitler, or finding his remains someplace.

Now 1945 Berlin would have been horrific, and I image there were corpses in shell craters wherever you looked. However ones just outside the Führerbunker should have gotten closer attention, much more so than the sloppy handling that haunts us to this day.

As for trial? NO way was Hitler going to surrender to the Soviets or be taken by them. Possible different history if the Western Allies had gotten there first? We'll never know.

Since Stalin lied to Churchill and Truman at the Potsdam Conference in the summer of 1945 when he said that he didn't find Hitler's body, it is highly probable that if Soviet troops had captured Hitler and taken him aboard a Lisunov Li-2 to Vienna to be asked about his evil deeds and eventually killed in an electric chair, then there would have been no rumors of Hitler's escape.

They didn't find Hitlers body, there's no forensic evidence to backup that claim. The French and United States had forensic experts test the skull remnants the Soviets claimed belonged to Hitler, and concluded that they belong to a young woman. The rest of his body was seemingly scattered in a forest?

It's a bit like burying Osama Bin Laden at sea, anyone who believes that BS is clearly naïve.

do you really believe that if the ussr would have captured hitler he would have made it to Vienna under stalin?
please, stalin would have had a special dungeon built under the kremlin (if there wasn't one already) where he could have personally gone down and tortured him daily, then would have killed hitler himself.

and if any of the ussr troops would have killed him in the field, stalin would have sent those to a gulag for robbing him of his personal vengeance.

stalin was just a sick bastard as hitler, i would dare say even more so. now that i think about it that's more than likely what happened.

Ok, we need to get a few things straight. Firstly, Hitler's personality demanded a last stand in Berlin, he was an all-or-nothing kind of lunatic. His orders to effectively burn the country down around him, as the Germans had let him down make that quite clear. His political last will and testament is a pitiful thing, full of rants about Jews and other nonsense. There was never any hint that he would have escaped, because it was not in his mentality to 'escape' anywhere. Berlin was his power base and that was where he would die, end of argument. The man must have known that the war was over, but he kept hoping that something would happen to rival Frederick the Great's Miracle of the House of Brandenburg.
Secondly, in the days before his death Hitler heard of the execution of Mussolini and the way that his body was strung up afterwards by the Italians, for all to see. Hitler had no intention whatsoever of suffering the same fate. He was going to kill himself and the body would be burnt beyond all recognition, so he could not be put on display. Apparently they used so much precious and increasingly rare fuel that they didn't have enough to do a very good job on Goebbels afterwards.

I doubt it, maybe that would have been the public story.

You find a lot of these leaders are actually friends, how many times has Putin shook the hand of a US President, how many phone calls and meals have they shared?

Most likely they'd be sharing some whisky in a windowless room, after-all there's not many genocidal dictators in the world, they'd have plenty in common.

Not opinion. Facts. Hitler had no intention of being taken alive, Benny the Moose's death horrified him. Read any decent book about the horrible little man's life and you'll get confirmation of that.

Prove it.

Stalin admitted Hitler was alive.

You mean books like this?

Grey Wolf

You realise the FBI went to South America to investigate the claims he was still alive, spending a lot of tax dollars in the process? Clearly the intelligence agencies weren't convinced. Still, you're clearly more informed than the FBI and people who've actually researched the subject.
