Well it seems that since they have "taken care of" Iraq and Afghanistan they need another threat towards the American people's lives and since it is in our national security to do whatever we want to whoever we want to take care of ourselves first and others later if at all, it seems only natural that N Korea would just suddenly pop up to have such advanced weapons, weapons we had no idea about. Our intelligence is supposed to be the best in the world, we spend billions of dollars a year and we "found" WMD in Iraq but where are they? No one knows, now there are some in Korea that we didn't know about, I guess our security and survelliance isn't as good as we think.
I don't not feel safe because of terrorists.
I do not feel safe because of the CIA and GWB.

Iluvatar, what are you talking about? Kim Jong-Il admits having an advanced nuclear program. Sure he's luny, but why not believe him and the rest of the world?

I would like the liberals and democrats try to argue against a war in NK after all tehy said prior to Gulf War 2. But you know they will be against it because the pres. will be for it

one point you missed though. kim jong il, is not insane, crazy, lunatic, or anyother discription of ones mental state that will get you sent to my house, i mean the asylum. he knows good well what he's doing, and more likely than not has a plan. i think, that the north, will test, one of their nuclear weapons before christmas. people say they'll do it on the anniversary of south korean independance, or whatever the holiday is, but i don't think they'd blow one, until they have a few more to back the first up. you don't shoot the last bullet without another clip. north korea, will be the next vietnam, if we dedicate ground forces, hopefully, if they do test, we will immediately eliminate the air force, and ack ack sites, follow that up by a stiff defence of the DMZ line, and heavy bombing of their bases and other military facilities, if not that, just assassinate the big fish himself. it's simpler that way.

I think he is what Wolfowitz (?) said he was- a total fruitcake.
He is a nut. He will continue to throw his chips on the table hoping we will fold and give him his groceries. The people he uses as chattlel will not get grain or rice we can be fairly assured of this...he is insane to lead such tyranny and evil against his people!

The US will have no choice other than to bow down before President Kim Jong Il and accept the DPRK's demands, retire from the Korean Peninsula, lift the embargo and leave the poor and suffering korean people in peace. A nuclear DPRK will have to be tolerated, inasmuch as it is no more a threat than a nuclear China for example, as China owns DPRK.

Kim Jong-Il is not luny??? Do you know about his fear of the number three? Any triplets born are sent to state orphanages because he believes a triplet will overthrow him. Top party members who have triplets are not excluded. No, you are right, the man is sane.

The removal of North Korea's weapons programme has to be done with the co-operation of the Chinese, i think the US may have to give a bit of ground and it can end without confrontation.

The US may not want to give away any ground but War with North Korea might be even less appealling.

I agree completely that Kim Jong-Il will only see the light of day if China threatens him. However, the Chinese are more than willing to sell arms to N. Korea and are only giving lip service to the world's opinion that he is nuts.

My question, as always on this subject, is what are the RUssians and Chinese saying about this......after all, this IS their sphere of influence and control? N.Korea having these nuke abilities is as much a 'fear' to them as it is to the US.

Highly unlikely, N.Korea, China and the Former Soviets are whats left of the axis of evil. they represent the former and current communist parties. They all give lip service to the world is hopes thay we will percieve them has has beens or fruitless. When it is infact the opposite. Don't forget that Russia sponcered North Vietnam through China, and now China is sponcering N. Korea.

What makes the whole situation even worse, is the fact the US pushed them all into it. Not that I expect those of you born within the last couple of decades to understand this or know what I'm mentioning. TOO MANY people have forgotten what things really were like, if our government hasn't changed for the better what makes everyone think others have?

The GWB adminstrative have a way of putting a 'threat 'on line and trying to oppress them with force because of global domination.On doing this GWB & company must be successful on decieving the american people on why it was neccassary in millitary action against iraq and afhganistan. Advisor, thats a lot to think about in regards to what you mentioned.

Is it safe to assume that is why the CHinese and the Russians have said very little concerning this situation in regards to N.Korea, in fact, a couple of nukes and looking to build more?

I am a liberal AND a democrat and I wrote a lenghty essay on this site about why I was supporting Bush on the war in Iraq. I have since realized he planned for the aftermath poorly but I am glad to see Saddam out of power. So explain that.
Anyway, as a liberal democrat I think Kim Jong Il needs to taken out but not by us. He needs to be put down by his creators, i.e. Russia and China. If we need to assist then we have to assist, but China should be spanking her children, not us.

North Korea's artillery and rocket launchers could quickly shower thousands of shells on Seoul, only 37 miles south of the border. Yet most residents of Seoul have grown up with the threat and there was no sense of alarm in the capital.

I think the man's getting desperate....like a kid trying to get his/her parents attention....

I read where they could literally devastate Seoul inflicting 10,000's of thousands of wounded and dead in like short order....even before a US response.
