Considering all the sanctions for not importing or shipping Russian oil and commodities, there would be alot of tankers, and cargo carriers laying around dormant.

Cargo ship
Supertankers

Instead of doing nothing, how about getting these supertankers to carry water from flooded areas to areas of drought?

Right now Australia is pumping tons of floodwaters into the oceans. Ofcourse its not clean, but the cost of cleaning it and transporting it would be “peanuts”.

Then there is the absolute free clean water, from melting glaciers, Greenland and what not.

This water is precious, and should be considered far more valuable than oil. If we cant grow crops, well...

It can be considered drops to carry i know, but atleast its something, and being mobile, tankers can arrive at drought areas within weeks.

Now tell me how crazy this idea is

So you want to burn hundreds of tones of deisil fuel moving water in oil tankers?

Where are you going to get the money to pay for the fuel? Where are you going to get the money for the insurance for the ships? Where are you going to get the money for the crews?

How are you going to get rid of all that unnecessary carbon given off by the ships? Your suggestion is not very 'green' at all.

What exactly are you going to do with their current cargos? I think they are more or less impounded until the sanctions are over.

The cargo still belongs to who it did before sanctions, it just cannot be delivered. Where are you going ho put it all if you are even allowed to unload it?

They would have done so anyway. Whats wrong with fresh water?

The same deals and insurances as they are now. Sanctions are are a two-edged sword, it will cut us too.

We are not getting away from the emissions right away. Yes a problem.
But seawater can be split into hydrogen and oxygen. There are ways. Would be slower transport, but would cut costs in the long run.

Cargo goes to nearest harbor. They can always get it later. Unless its food.

Look above ^

One drop of oil will spoil 1.000.000 L water, what do you think will happen if there is just one drop left in the tanker and all the pipes? Flood water is contaminated with all kinds of nasty stuff inside.

This thread feels like trolling.

Ummm…Okay…

Your idea is crazy…

And Australia is the land of idiocy…

A huge desert…surrounded by a thin ring of vegetation…and they pump flood waters into the ocean…

Ummm…hello…?

if you fill one of those tankers with flood water, it wouldn't be fit to transport oil again. flood water isn't clean stuff it will leave a lot of gunk laying dormant in the tank and you've seen the size of these things, it's not worth clearing it as the operation would be too complicated and expensive.
then transporting is another matter it's not worth it, way easier to pump it away from the site or let it drain away.

Also bring all kinds of foreign bacteria and diseases with it, the ballast thanks of ships / subs distribute enough already. Although algae, snails and clams have been attaching to ships for hundreds of years, this is importing a part of an ecosystem.

Very unwise in every aspect.

I’ve always wondered why we, being Australia as a nation, don’t have desalination plants pumping water into the big red heart.

If the weather patterns keep moving south as they have for the last twenty years then, perhaps, nature will water the desert and make the country bloom all by itself.
