This is the world we live in, this is the hand we're given.

Love this song and I hate this song at the same.time.

Because it's a lie...

Whatever version, whatever generation covers it, they lie.

My generation will put it right
We're not just making promises
That we know we'll never keep

Lies.

Every single person that's sang those words...

Lies...

From the time Phil Collins sang them, through Disturbed and their quaint very 90's-early 2000's video where they still believed the jaded cynical youth hadn't been bought by corporations, despite all 90's culture being the epitome of corporate driven rebellion.

Then there's Phil's original lies, that generation straight #ed everything for everyone that came after.

I hate this song because of its lies and hypocrisies, but damn is it catchy and Phil Collins sure can hammer out a good beat.

God bless you.

Been a while since I heard some Genesis.

I really like the early songs with Peter Gabriel. Reminds me of Pink Floyd.

This 1978 song may have predicted the coming dystopia. Maybe.

No problem, i like genesis, the old prog rock Peter Gabriel stuff was like early Rush or Jethro Tull or Syd Barret Pink Floyd. I actually really like Land of Confusion and to be honest, Phil Collins as well, even his solo singer stuff, though he'll always be a drummer to me, ever seen the video of him playing drums on Paranoid with Black Sabbath for the Queen's jubilee?

I dunno, was just listening to Land of Confusion though and realized how utterly ironic.and hypocritical it was.

Though, that video and those muppets though, will always be great.

Just looking at the title of this thread, before reading the OP, I was going to respond with...

'BUT, that's just all BS! The lyrics implied this generation was going to DO something about it, and they have exactly ZERO intentions of DOING anything but F'ing things up even worse! They're not the solution, but rather the majority of the problem!'

THEN I read your OP, and I thought...okay, he's already got this and is on the right track.

It kind of reminded me of an elementary King Crimson. Phil is a badass drummer. Peters antics/voice, hahaaa awesome!

Here is the leader of the "humans will be extinct by 2030" He made a fortune of fear mongering, thus adding to global confusion and lies.

IIRC thats the video with Reagan riding the dinosaur
mocking him and Thatcher and putting them in the same category as Gorbachev and Castro etc.

this came up in the Roger Waters thread.

imbeciles out of touch with reality.

how long do you think Collins or Water would have lasted behind the iron curtain>
