Ancient cancel cultures: The defacement of statues in America replicates a tradition going back millennia

Since at least the third millennium B.C., economically, socially and politically marginalized people have questioned authority by mutilating public images of rulers. And those in power have destroyed monuments to reinforce their authority and erase the names and accomplishments of their predecessors.

So now that everyone is just now "Woke" to a very ancient pastime apparently, how does it make you feel about the recent defacing and toppling of monuments?

I found this to be a rather interesting read. Short, not too long but hits a nail on the head for many who are fascinated by ancient cultures and how history definitely repeats.

Archaeology shows that the presentation of people, events and ideas through history has always been contentious and tied to contemporary political concerns, including nationalism, racism and xenophobia. Just like American protesters today, ancient Mesopotamians, Mesoamericans and Egyptians altered their political present by changing how they displayed their past.

There is Power in the present and Power in the past. History has many lessons for us to learn but if we are too wrapped up in either one over the other we lose over all.

It was a mental disorder then and is a mental disorder now . Erasing history doesn't help , IT keeps the ignorant more ignorant .

IF we deduce someone by their negative traits and ignore the positive and cancel them , then ....

Micheal Jackson must be erased , Kobe must be erased , Ghandi must be erased , MLK must be erased , Malcom x must be erased. The Vatican must be erased . The queen must be erased.. etc

Problem i see is most intelligent people don't want to bring children into this world of madness ...

but the other side is the dumb kids growing up and raising more dumb kids to match their mentality . This is why this type of stupidity continues generation after generation .

the dumb kids of the past are parents today , raising dumb kids of the future..

Excellent post mate and your quite right .

Another example is the destruction of Pagan culture in the Roman Empire to pave the way for Christianity , It was not just the Pagan statues or Pagan Documents/Works that were destroyed but the Pagans them selves were slaughtered by Christians .

A new way of thinking sweeps through a nation and people begin to embrace it , attacking , rioting , ostracizing the portion of society that neglects the new way of thinking..... Sound Familiar ?

Bottom Line:

Authoritarianism tries to erase anything that they disagree with and do not like especially history.

Does not matter if that Authoritarianism is religious, governmental, political or social justice ideology, etc.

Being bitter and breaking s# tells me one is not likely to live to old age. They'd be lucky to live long enough to file for early retirement at 62 with that kind of negativity rolling through the veins.
Edit: Lol, who am I kidding, these rats don't work, probably never had a legit paycheck in their lives yet.

If someone lets s# get under their skin enough to pull anything like that, the stress from one's tissue-paper thin skin is going to do 'em in. Or a very angry public. I'd say the angry public is more hazardous to health.

It can and has bitten the re-writers in the ass. Ask Rome about the abysmal failure and HUGE loss of life The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest was when those Germanic pagans banded together & fought back dirty. The Romans permanently avoided trying to conquer the Germanics east of the Rhine after that one.

We could learn a thing or two from those old pagans.

Some remains of the Limes Wall are still to be found here in my region and lot's of dug up things like ceramic and remains of weapons.

There are some ruins not far from where I grew up, the first floor is made from stone wall, the rest is gone.
