I don't think the title does the actual recorded event justice.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating after video surfaced online of a uniformed officer repeatedly striking a man during an encounter.

The incident happened on April 27 in Boyle Heights, police said.

A video apparently recorded by a bystander from across the street shows two LAPD officers, one male and one female, detaining a man on a sidewalk by a church.

Visit KTLA to watch the video.

An initial verbal exchange between the man and the male officer is unclear, but the officer begins striking the civilian at least nine times in the head from behind while screaming expletives.

The video in question. Warning, it's quite graphic.

So it's under investigation, fair enough. 20 second video. But even within that 20 second timeframe, you could clearly see the suspect with his arms behind his back, unarmed, remaining in place as officers directed. Obviously he said something, possibly a threat, but for the police officer to just strike him in the head randomly? There couldn't have been 100 other options? Keep your cool? This is your job?

A member of the community provided a cellphone recording of the exchange to a responding supervisor, LAPD said. A review of that footage, as well as police bodycam video, prompted an internal investigation, the agency said.

It's the 2020s. Everybody is watching now.

There is police brutality happening everywhere it's insane and a huge problem. Sadly ATS will find a roundabout way to say its good.

Well, cops are human too, the cop is probably stuck in his house all the time he is off with his wife and at least he isn't beating up his wife.

Really Ricky? Please tell me you’re drunk on quarantinis?

That was terrible. The cop was sooooo enraged, that he slammed his own sunglasses to the ground. The victim did nothing physically to retaliate.

That cop has serious mental issues and should be locked up. Let alone policing others while armed...

And BTW, I’m sure he probably is beating his wife. Kids too, with that kind of rage.

What a looney, after throwing those haymakers it looked like he tried to hump the guy, officer looney needs to find a new job after his stint in jail.

I think this shows that this police officer needs to learn how to throw a punch. you can see him wailing on him and has little to no effct onb the guy. thats a joke obviously. but yeah this is bad. You can see the other officer in there body language thinking the officer was going to far.

Obviously wrong no matter what the guy may have said. Luckily no harm done as officer friendly had zero hand skills and probably went to the ER for chest pain and exhaustion afterwords. I would bet the man's charges include batt on a LEO.

That’s a really good point. Maybe he’s in the closet, pissed cuz he thinks he’s cute and really wants to hump him.

I grew up in a strict religion that didn’t allow homosexuality. Some of them were the angriest of anyone. We found out why when they came out. Not angry anymore.

Right. its kind of funny to 33 seconds in you see the officer throw his sunglasses in anger because his punches are so ineffective.

On a serious note. Unfortunately, we are going to see a lot more of this as things ‘gradually’ reopen.

My prediction: when bars reopen, NO ONE attending them will practice social distancing. The bad cops will take advantage of the situation and enforce authority and aggression. Hopefully, most LEO’s will realize people have been cooped up for too long.

Bars open here Monday. I’m freaking going out!!!

Yes thinking he is going too far yet standing there and doing nothing about it. That's another big problem the rotten apples are enabled because of the "code" among officers. Not only do they do nothing in these cases they usually help obstruct it from others. Show me a video where a cops goes too far and the other cop pulls off the first cop pulls him away, says that's enough or just does the right thing in general. I doubt that happens rarely, if ever, no matter how wrong the second cop thinks it is.

legal for him to pop the officer at that point.....the second officer grabs for her gun then she is also unneccessary...

It’s the LAPD. What do you expect? Them to treat people like human beings and try to work through the situation?

Get it together people.

I wish the guy would have kept filming when the rest of the goon squad showed up.
Completely unjustified from seeing that video.
Outside of a 3 Stooges clip, I have never seen that many ineffective punches thrown and the guy was really not even trying to evade the swings.

This type of police interaction isn't just in LA. There was a video out of New York city making the rounds in the media yesterday. New York's officers were engaged with someone on the sidewalk while a bystander was filming the interaction. An under cover officer approached the bystander and ordered him to get back even though the bystander wasn't interfering with the officers. The man questioned the officers order. The bystander received a beating and was arrested for defying social distancing orders. Clearly the officer approached the bystander and got in his face. Then beat him down and arrested him for noncompliance of social distancing? Law enforcement is clearly out of control in this country they have been for awhile. There seems to be no real consequences for police brutality. In this case it was caught on tape. So maybe the officer will be "disciplined ".

I think law enforcement officers are of the mind set that it's impossible to know if someone is Covid-19 positive or not. So when they interact with the public they are assuming everyone has the virus. Its not a stretch that this officer in NYC believed his health could be compromised by this bystander being too close to him. That's why the officer reacted as if being physically assaulted. That thinking is dangerous the very idea officers can use the possibility of someone having a virus to justify violence is unconscionable. For an officer to approach someone then arrest them for being too close. Is a whole new level.

No way is that officer ever justified in doing what he did there…especially with the guy totally unarmed and with his hands behind his back…

It doesn’t matter what the guy says…The police officers job is too remain professional at all times…do his job, hand cuff the guy and arrest him…

That situation could have become far worse. The guy getting beat up could have retaliated violently, or someone else witnessing the beating could have tried to intervene…which would have escalated the situation even further…

IF that officer lost control, even for an instant he would have put that lady officer in a difficult position…loss of life would have probably been on the cards…

Pretty disgusting all round…hopefully lessons get learned and justice gets served…

Supposedly they are putting up plexi screens in between the seats in the casino bars. Yeah, THAT'S gonna help. Complete stupidity.
