I believe Zaphod was referring to "air friction" causing the nosecone of the jet, to "heat up" by going 'too fast' - - as 'some' can

You should read about the development of the U-2 and SR71 to learn about said problems with "hot noses"

i think people today forget how much of an amazment jet air travel is.

it took decades to get it even to break even and be seen as a viable weapon(WWII)

push an aircraft to low to fast or even messing around with his buddies looking for the radar blip are more than likely to have caused this crash
