Most people think global poverty is rising when in fact the opposite is happening

The first chart shows how the surveyed people answered the following question: “In the last 20 years, the proportion of the world population living in extreme poverty has decreased, increased, or remained the same?”

The majority of people – 52% – believe that the share of people in extreme poverty is rising. The opposite is true. In fact, the share of people living in extreme poverty across the world has been declining for two centuries and in the last 20 years this positive development has been faster than ever before (see our entry on global poverty). For the recent era it doesn’t even matter what poverty line you choose, the share of people below any poverty line has fallen (see here).

ost people don’t know that child mortality is declining in poor countries

We are not just wrong about global poverty. In the same survey people were asked: “In the last 20 years, has the child mortality rate in developing regions increased, decreased or stayed about the same?”

Here again the data is very clear. The child mortality rate in both the less- and least-developed countries has halved in the last 20 years.2
The survey once more shows that most people are not aware of this. On average only 39% know that the mortality of children is falling. And what greater achievement has humanity ever achieved than making it more and more likely that children survive the first, vulnerable years of their lives and sparing parents the sadness of losing their babies? This has to be one of humanity’s greatest achievements.

There is a lot more to feel good about.

Share with your friends and family.

The world is getting better.

Who is most of us? It's not me, and it's not the people I speak with on a daily basis.

This is your third thread on the topic. These multiple threads can be better focused by sticking to one thread and including relevant sources.

Third world is becoming more wealthy because the US taxpayers are having enormous amounts of money stolen from them through corrupt politicians and entities like the UN.

WE as a nation are becoming more poor, as we are the ones having our wealth taken from us unwillingly from politicians.

The underlying theme here (being pushed by the MSM) is that everything is getting worse, and the only solution is globalist, socialist policies that will only serve to reverse our actual progress while further ensuring a dumbed down population increasingly reliant on government.

Nope, not just America, China has been heavily investing billions into third world nations. They made Akon a billionaire over night to build infrastructure in west Africa.

en.wikipedia.org...

And that's only the beginning!

Also, India has been on a crash course of innovation and technology recently. America doesn't really give infrastructure aid, they are into the destruction game and then handing out aid to keep them on a leash.

The world may be getting better, but the society here has conditioned people to need their wants, like expensive cell phone packages with rediculously priced phones and all sorts of internet stuff like starlink and channels like Hulu complete and others, on top of their cable of course.

They have convinced the people that wants are more important than needs, even telling people that cleaning your own meat like chicken or pork is unsafe because of food poisoning. Buy everything precooked or go to the restaurant, so you can die of chemical poisoning instead of food poisoning.

Seems you have recently read “Factfulness” by Hans Rosling?

Discusses similar concepts that you post in recent threads.

I think that depends on how you measure poverty. If you measure it on materialistic terms you are correct. But this is leaving people empty still sometimes.

Taking the liked of hope or spirituality seem to me far worse types of poverty.

The power of propaganda. It can't be both ways. The billionaires can't become more rich. I don't know where you live but where I live prices always go up. They never go down. And the prices are going up way faster my wages.

It seems to me there is a lot of data out there suggesting wealth inequality is on the rise as opposed to declining. But hey there is a small group of people who claim the Earth is flat:
