Tropical Storm Karen formed this morning east of Tobago. A tropical storm warning is in effect for Grenada, Trinadad and Tobago. A tropical storm
watch is in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Tropical storm warnings for the South Windward Islands and Tropical Storm watches for the
Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico later today.
Currently Karen is a minimum Tropical Storm with sustained winds of 40 mph, pressure of 1005mb, and moving WNW 9mph.
Karen is expected to move NW, then turn more north toward the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The computer models are in good agreement with this
track, however when north of Puerto Rico there is much uncertainty. Both the European and GFS(American) models suggest Karen will then turn west
toward the Bahamas, Cuba, and the Southeast US at the end of the month and early October.
Karen is a long way out but could potentially threaten the recovery and rebuilding efforts in the Bahamas and then the Southeast US as a hurricane.
