I know the majority here will disagree, but, after Bernie Sanders popped up on Joe Rogans podcast last night I’m intrigued to learn more about Bernie. A few points first:

-I know politicians lie out the a$$ to get votes.
-I know the media is full of crap and loaded with propaganda on both sides.
-I only want what’s best for America as a whole.

With that said, hearing Bernie speak in a long open forum like Rogans show gave us a different look at Bernie. In doing so he reminded me more of an Independent candidate than a Democratic one. Of course he has liberal values but he’s not as far left as I had originally thought, if one believes what he said on the podcast.

He makes some valid points about our biggest problems. The healthcare debate, cost of prescriptions, government corruption and lobbyists, wasteful spending. He said he’s pro 2nd Amendment, but some changes need to be made. I don’t disagree with him and I’m a huge proponent of the 2nd amendment. We’ve got to find a way to stop these mass murders from happening. And he spoke towards the mental health factors of America being just as liable as the gun a person uses to commit these rapidly occurring atrocities.

Anyway, I don’t commit myself to on side or the other. I want what’s best for all of us and sometimes it’s not who you think. ATS is very Pro-Trump so I know there’s going to be a lot of resistance to anything Bernie on here. But, I’m going to rethink my perspective of him after finally getting to hear him speak at length and without media spin.

Really don't want anyone in charge who owns three homes saying they are going to tax people who own one home a lot more for their own good.

Now, if he turned two of those homes into homeless shelters I may entertain it.

Probably...socialism should stay local and at best in the state...anyone for democratic anything should limit federal powers and expansion..

Socialism is not scary when you have classical liberals and fiscal conservatives to help balance out ideas and guide towards what is practical and what is not.

Since Republicans who were once interested in fiscal responsibility and limited government are now just about owning the libs...it is a bit more ominous

There is no longer a fiscal conservative platform to offer logical conversations. There is identity politic virtue signaling "conservatives" who offer no actual conservative legislation beyond deregulation of environmental regulations and owning the libs.

So here we are. In no mans land rocking back and forth.

He would be terrible.
Look at how many "free" things he is promising.
If he was able to do all of his free programs the economy would collapse but I doubt he would be able to get any of them passed so everything would scream to a halt.

Not to mention hes to damn old.

He's a communist.

Communism is incompatible with the United States Constitution. He would be terrible for America.

I once thought so.
That Bernie was a potential President
Until he took a knee and kissed the ring of his Queen

It isn't hard to point out our biggest problems.

It is hard to fix them.

As for me, I choose not to trust a lifelong government parasite that rails against the 'rich'.... when he is one of those that I consider to be wealthy. He owns multiple expensive homes and has plenty of money in the bank, and he made all of that money working for the government.

Communism always works out so well for countries that adopt it.
It'd just be quicker to nuke ourselves.

He is a democratic socialist which has a history in the United states for more than 100 years. Star spangled banner...written by a socialist....the movement to have weekends off in the labor movement..socialist (literal socialist movement), kids not working in coal mines...socialist...

Socialism needs a check which is classical liberalism and fiscal conservativism the real problem is those two things don't exist anymore.

Guess you missed it while owning the libs.

He supports wealth redistribution, reparations for slaves, The green new deal, free college, and free healthcare. It's just a whole lot of taking money out of people's pockets and sticking it in the pockets of his friends.

I have a degree in philosophy so thanks but I can think for myself.

Socialism gave you weekends off and stopped kids from working in unsafe enviornments... etc...

What has neoconservatism given you?

I will wait...

How about we start off with something simple. What has Bernie Sanders done that has benefitted the average American during his almost 40 years of being a politician?

You're trying to compare apples to oranges.

Really so literal socialists who started the us labor movement is apples and oranges?
The fact remains we haven't had fiscal conservatives to any degree of power since richard Nixon opened the chinese floodgates...so yeah socialism is scary. There is no real voice against it.

What ideas has he gotten through Congress to help average Americans though? Anyone can vote no, but a future president has to have ideas and be influential enough to get those ideas passed in Congress.

You want me to argue for a presidential position I don't agree with?

I love Ron Paul but he wasn't very effective either.

So are we saying someone like Susan Collins or Klobachar are the prime candidates since they actually pass bipartisan bills regularly?

If that is the case I may agree.
