News is coming out that Uday, son of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, was plotting to overthrow his father just as US troops advanced on Baghdad in March 2003, journalist Peter Arnett claimed in Playboy Magazine.

Saddam's son Uday was poised to topple dad : controversial US journalist

Did the US 'jump the gun' on this one? Surely US intelligence must have had some intel on this topple plan by Uday, did we invade Baghdad to prevent it from happening? Was it our mission to gain exclusive control of Iraq for our own democracy spreading agenda?

Or could Peter Arnett be fabricating a lie to sell dirty mags?

Apparently not.
Got a package deal: two for one!
Would that be like "buy one get one free"?
Besides, what makes anyone think that Uday would have been any better than his father?

However you wish to twist this...the proof is in the pudding, eh?
Just in free 'democratic' styled elections held or to be:
Afghanistan
Iraq
Saudi Arabia
Egypt
Lebanon
Palestine

And other news worthy mentions:
Libya reveals and gives up its nuclear program.
Lebanon wants Syria out.
Palestine and Israel have agreed to a truce/ceasefire.
Anti-US sentiments are on the decline, namely in Indonesia.

Or could Peter Arnett be fabricating a lie to sell dirty mags?

Peter is ok.
The report may or is pretty much true, but again, it would not have changed the face of what the US did.

I think if this is in fact true, and we did know about it in advance, then we would have tried to prevent it. The only thing worse than a Saddam-controlled Iraq would be an Uday-controlled Iraq. At least Saddam wasn't clincally INSANE as many say Uday was. I don't know what Uday was thinking if he believed that we would recognize him as the new leader of Iraq and not try doing anything about it.

It's odd that if Uday was working on the overthrow of his father for the past 10 years that Saddam wouldn't have gotten wind of it at some point. Then again, if someone did know they very well could have been afraid to approach Saddam with the idea that his own son is trying to overthrow him. If they weren't afraid of Saddam's response to that idea, then they should have been afraid of Uday finding out about who tipped dad off. Saddam may have found out about this during the invasion, and it could be why Uday and Qusay weren't more protected and well-hidden by elements of the former regime. Maybe Saddam gave the green light for them being ratted on???

No doubt it's fair to suggest that Uday could have been 10x fold more brutal than his father. Was Uday pro or heavily anti-US? Perhaps Uday's movement could have been utilized by our CIA towards a pro-western revolution in Iraq, eventually spilling into the middle-east? One theory could be US forces invaded Baghdad to thwart Uday's toppling plans, a heavily anti-US agenda with a clear movement towards state terrorism.

It's extremely interesting to theorize on this, none the less...
