I attended HS in the 90's and we said the pledge every day from kindergarten on. I don't remember once saying it w/o meaning or sincerity or
projection (voice tone/sound/volume). We didn't mumble through it. We didn't say it under out breaths. We didn't "mouth" it (like lip syncing)
relying on others voices to fill the room.
We may have been tired of saying it and didn't take it "seriously" b/c we had said it just 24 hours ago - we hadn't gone through anything or been
witness to anything that would have changed our opinion in the last 24 hours.
I look at what is happening in our country today (politics, social movements, etc) and I wonder if I would say the pledge the same way, with the same
conviction. It is sad to think that people might not feel they can or want to say the pledge.
