How about the Taino people that inhabited the Caribbean Islands including Cuba and Puerto Rico. They were the first people Columbus encountered in the New World and numbered around 2 million inhabitants at the time. Unfortunately the Spanish brought with them smallpox which decimated 90 peroent of the Taino population with the rest being assimilated into other cultures by marriage.

Good example... apparently the Caribbean was Atlantis (according to Plato) so its weird now the people have been replaced with mulattos of mostly African and European blood - not native Caribbeans =/

Although, the Americas had some pretty brutal societies. In the past cultures came and went, and the creation and extiction were not unique to the Europeans, or the people who came from Europe in whose countries we now see today.

For example, the Lima, Huari civilisations came and went, and the Mayan civilsation was built on the bones of the societies they conquored. This cycle repeats itself across the world.

However, on recorded genocides - where the intent by policy was to destroy a people, I have a small selection, of the many recorded:

- The Holocaust (German versus mainly Jews)
- The Holodomor (Soviet Russia against the Ukraine)
- Nazis in Poland
- Russians in Poland
- Cambodia (... by the Cambodians)
- Kazakh genocide (them nice Russians again)
- Armenian genocide (Ottoman Turks attempting to extinguish Armenia)
- Rwandan genocide (attmpt to extinguish ethnic Tutsis by the Hutus)
... and on, and on.

Iceland. I read somewhere that as recently as 500 years ago (I could be wrong about the timeline) the original population was genocided. Apparently there are no original Icelanders, who were more closely related to the Irish.

China is another country where supposedly the Han, who dominate now, displaced the original populace.

Apparently a significant part of Britain's natives have DNA of the original population. Of course until 10,000 years ago it was covered by an ice sheet...

A significant part of the UK has Anglo-Saxon DNA, an invader who wiped out the local populace............

"Wiping out the local populace" is not accurate. It is likely the local population mixed with and were assimilated into the new waves of invaders, such as the Anglo Saxons, and in so doing changed the nature of the invaders.

Not really, the Anglo Saxons aggressively expanded westwards and northwards for several hundred years, actively expunging the local population.

Boatload after boatload of new settlers needed the land - no place for the native population who were pushed to the margins. Obviously this eventually waned over time.

Apparently, those dastardly mammals threw big ass rocks at 'em.

Genocide as govt. policy is hardly a new thing. Been happening for all of recorded history, and before, I'm fairly certain.

theres some countries where peoples mutually mixed from gradual trade & migration literally on foot, like greater India. or one neighbor genocided another, like Aztecs on mayans.

but then others where rambunctious, maybe demon-infested people teeming with contagious & sex diseases invaded from a whole other distant continent in sudden droves and took over enslaving and/or killing off the simple, disease-free indigenous like they weren't even humans, as in US & AUS.

u can tell by the latitude vs melanin distribution of indigenous peoples or via fossil records. if its a mismatch (ie, mostly germans living in the sub/tropical areas of say, south and north america) then obviously its genocide. and the natives (that moved in there long ago without genocide) were replaced.

it could be said that us humans (cro magnons) genocided the Neanderthals since we're only like 1% that, but how do we know we killed them off plus did they really have 'countries' back then?

definitely today theres factions genociding one another (ie, sunnis vs Shiites) but they're overly local limited to one region whereas say, the British have already invaded like 97% of the world map of 9 out of 10 countries at least.

America: 95% Native Indian population exterminated starting 1607, replaced by British Colonies which later declared independence 169 years later.

To be fair on the British, it was the westward expansion by an independent America which led to the major impact on the native Indians in North America. The British evolved a policy which sought to reduce impact the locals, including restricting expansion. The Americans tore that policy up.

The Russians cleared out populations in order to occupy with native Russians. We see that today in Crimea, but there are many examples. In an earlier period, the Russians committed genocide against the Circassians for example.

The repopulation of Tibet by native Chinese and into other places in China dilutes indigenous populations. While not strictly genocide, it achieves the same purpose – that of supplanting the locals.

The Patagonian Genocide committed by Argentina is worth a mention.

Define genocide.

Did explorers intentionally infect Hawaiians who had no (none) resistance to common diseases?

If so, then Hawaii would count. But the overthrow of the (constitutional) monarchy didn't really have much to do with that. That was just business. American business. Hawaii was then annexed by the US and eventually became a state.

MAGA. Let's do that annexation thing some more.
