This little piece of description:
The microwave emitters create high frequency electromagnetic waves throughout the resonant cavity causing the resonant cavity to vibrate in an

Seems to me that if you could figure out a way to manipulate that "local polarized vacuum" you could have your ship zipping around at very high speeds
in all kinds of crazy directions without it necessarily smashing the pilots into mush. Also, that might resolve that sonic boom problem since there's
nothing in front of the ship to create a shockwave into.
