(Boltzmann brain here just popping into existence briefly to add a few cents to the thread.)

Could synaptic quantum tunnelling in brain activity be the evolutionary decendent of photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis has been occurring for about three billion years. Now thats a very long timeline to give rise to something like photosynthesis branching off or morphing into something more complicated as organisms themselves grow more complex over eons through evolution...especially considering it only took six million years for us to get from dumb monkies to Einstein.

I am of the opinion that you are on to something here. Perhaps another example of a macro quantum system could be consciousness. Though as opposed to being more seperate realities it seems to me that this is evidence of more dimensions.

Excellent post and you're exactly right.

It seems nature has found a way to use these vibrational coherences in areas like photosynthesis, bird migration, DNA replication, possibly a sense of smell and more.

For years, materialist have told us how powerful evolution is because of time and natural selection yet they're scared to death of the connection between quantum mechanics and consciousness. The question has to be asked why?

Naturally, if QM is connected to consciousness and we have a Quantum Mind then all of the convoluted questions about consciousness emerging from the material brain go away but it comes at a costs. This cost answers the question why.

If QM is tied to consciousness then things like quantum tunneling, quantum teleportation, entanglement, superposition and non locality can manifest in ways we would call paranormal or Psi. Twin telepathy or Precognition would have simple explanations because your Quantum Mind wouldn't be bound to the present moment like your material body if there is such a thing.

It would extend to life after death because your memory would be quantum information which can never be destroyed. So some version of you could be rebooted ad infinitum because your memory is encoded in space-time geometries at Planck scales.

So again, the cult of Scientific Materialism can't allow this because it would shatter their hold and control over Science.

Luckily some people are working in these areas with very little research dollars. You have the Quantum Brain Project with Matthew Fisher. You also have the work of Penrose and Hameroff and the recent discovery of quantum vibrations in micrtubles.

Confirmation of Quantum Resonance in Brain Microtubules

A research team led by Anirban Bandyopadhyay – a preeminent researcher in the quantum science of biology – has demonstrated high temperature quantum mechanical vibrations in brain neurons. The research, undertaken at the National Institute of Material Sciences in Tsukuba, Japan, found how the high frequency oscillation of microtubules - measured at one million cycles per second in this case (one megahertz – 1MHz oscillation of electrical dipole moments of free electrons and conformational switching), cause wave interference that may give rise to the characteristic shape of the electrical oscillations of the brain that are correlated with conscious awareness, specifically a new kind of electroencephalographic signal (EEG) of 40 Hz / 4 Hz nested gestalts (gamma and delta oscillations, respectively), referred to as “beat frequencies”.

resonance.is...

There's something important to notice here. In photosynthesis, it's about vibrational coherences. In a sense of smell, it would be about vibrations and with a quantum mind it would be about....you guessed it, vibrations.

Here's a video of quantum tunneling and vibrations as it relates to a sense of smell.

At the end of the day, we know these coherences exist throughout nature, the question is, has nature found a way to shield these coherences long enough to directly effect the wet and warm classical world. The answer is yes when you look at the growing field of Quantum Biology.

Again, Scientific Materialist tell us that Evolution is powerful so it shouldn't be hard to figure out that shielding these vibrational coherences for longer periods of time and we're talking about picoseconds, that would allow QM to play a direct part in the classical world when it comes to Biology.

So once a photon has been observed does its polarization remain fixed or does it go back to a super position state after a specific length of time or when no one is measuring or observing it anymore ?

Really cool though , now if only we can determine what causes it to goto a specific state, does the observers state of consciousness determine the polarized state the photon takes on ?

would be quite mental if we affected its overall end polar state by observance alone , like if specific types of people only give rise to horizontal photons or vertical photons !

Thanks for your post. You said:

It goes back to superposition and evolves according to Schrodinger's equation. If you make a measurement back to back to back, you can freeze the particle in it's polarized state. This is called the Quantum Zeno Effect.

The quantum Zeno effect (also known as the Turing paradox) is a feature of quantum-mechanical systems allowing a particle's time evolution to be arrested by measuring it frequently enough with respect to some chosen measurement setting.

Sometimes this effect is interpreted as "a system can't change while you are watching it".[2] One can "freeze" the evolution of the system by measuring it frequently enough in its known initial state.

The last part of your post is very interesting and something that I haven't thought of. You said:

The first part of this, ties indirectly to Wigner's friend which has gotten some experimental support lately and says observers can measure 2 different facts. So consciousness plays a role in this. Wigner said a measurement requires the mind of a conscious observer to collapse the wave function.

This doesn't mean that consciousness can control which polarized state will occur which makes your second part quite interesting. I don't think there has ever been a test to see if outcomes are more likely when associated with different groups of conscious observers.

So you could see if outcomes are more likely based on things like Gender, Race, Region and more. This test would be expensive though and like I said earlier, there's not a lot of research dollars in this area mainly because of the bureaucracy of Scientific Materialism.
