Stories seem to have started popping up that Pakistan is claiming to have shot down two Indian aircraft?

www.bbc.co.uk...

And there are counter claims that India has shot down a pakistani F16

twitter.com...

Whilst i would have thought that India would have had the larger financial muscle? How does their airfleet stand up against that of Pakistan? Given the US military aid pakistan seems to have received over the years?

On paper India could mop the floor with Pakistan as India has a 9.4 trillion GDP while Pakistan has roughly one trillion. They both have around 100 to 130 nukes but India is the only ICBM capable country between the two.

F-16C/D Block52+ , modernized F-16As, JH-17s versus SU-30MKI and Mig-29UPG equipped with Israeli EW tech outnumbering them 2 to 1.
Wouldnt be pretty but India would be able to handle it.

There is also the nature of all of Pakistan's airbases being within striking range of the Indian airforce, while the opposite not being true. India also has a larger navy, a nuclear sub, and an aircraft carrier (formerly russian Kiev class). If the war became protracted, the Indian military industrial complex would outstrip Pakistan, as they are capable of producing all of the required types of weapons. It would still be absolutely bloody for both, but even in the event of nuclear war, India would still win.

Given that Pakistan is armed and supported by Russia, it really isn't a far cry that's why they were able to down an Indian aircraft.

Do not forget the Russian/Pakistan connection.

www.express.co.uk... wouldnt count on that they are an ally of india as well

If tensions continue to worsen between the two countries, India may have to gain support from its biggest allies. Russia has been a close ally of India since its independence and they are also one of the biggest partners in bilateral trade. USA President Donald Trump is also said to be pro-India due to receiving a lot of funding from Hindus in his campaign for president.
so trump and russia both friendly to india as opposed to pakistan just buying weapons from russia and china isnt exactly the best friends with china but they have urged restraint

Pakistan isn't a Russian ally. Never has been. In fact they fought against each other during the Soviet Afghan Intervention.

India is a Russian ally and has been for quite a while.

At least one MiG-21 is confirmed shot down and the pilot captured.

India claims to have shot down an F-16, but it crashed in Pakistan and there's no confirmation.

India also has a greater number of threats, such as China and their infamously unstable neighbours of Myanmar and Bangladesh. Their military has to be deployed in a manner to face these threats.

Pakistan however has the luxury of being able to deploy their military to almost exclusively face India, since they are kind-of allies with China, The regions of Afghanistan they border are controlled by their proxies the Taliban, leaving only India and Iran, and Iran is facing westwards.

(Global Firepower is also good for a brief look but isn't particularly reliable for anything more nuanced).

That would have been a hard choice for me.... Eject into a place with a bunch of Muslims who hate your guts or ride the bird into the dirt...??? It will be interesting on what happens to the pilot.. Hopefully he is not in some future video being burned alive or beheaded as that might inflame even the most dovish "Can't we all just get along crowd" into a firmer war footing.

This video says the attack was carried out by Mirage 2000 aircraft and lasted for only two minutes.. Supposedly there were 325 identified by India..(probably heroes by Pakistan) terrorist and 25 to 27 trainers. The strike was carried out in retaliation for the suicide bombing but there was also intel (India claims) that said they were planning on more suicide bombing attacks. India estimates there were over two hundred killed in the raid....youtu.be...

Of course Pakistan says there were no causalities as an uninhabited area was bombed..youtu.be...

Earlier today Pakistan seemed to have closed its airspace to civilian traffic going by some of the images that have been appearing online. There have been reports of heavy gunfire in numerous places in that region and now Pakistani tanks have been spotted moving towards the "Line of Control"
