'My supervisor says we cannot accept international driver's licenses. Do you have a New Mexico passport?'"

You can't make this stuff up!
Where did it happen, no not some podunk town, it was in Washington DC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The worst part, the clerk working with the couple talked to a supervisor and STILL said he needed a passport!
So that is TWO people, two that did not realize New Mexico was a state. I really think they both need to be fired.
Their basic lack of knowledge, and yet they are working with legal document.

Yep.. they shouldn’t be working with legal documents.

That would scare me if I was applying for a document. They should be ashamed and then fired.

I'll bet its the same people who wouldn't accept two dollar bills because they thought they were counterfeit.

BTW, have you ever been to New Mexico? Its different...

Yes I have, and it is absolutely gorgeous!
The only way I could describe it is like being in an aquarium without the water!

I once went to Home Despot and tried to buy some wood sold by the foot. That I had cut into different sizes.

The cashier couldn't convert inches into feet.

She even called her supervisor over. Neither of them could figure out how to convert inches into feet.

They were both fumbling around for a while. Finally I asked what the issue was.

They told me.

I said, "Just convert from inches to feet."

They said, "Oh, that's too hard."

I said, "How is that too hard? It's like 3rd grade math."

I had to convert it for them.

I totally believe you. I worked with materials and people simply do not know how to convert, and don't even get me started on fractions. We have some dumb math people here. I'm not even good at math, but like you said these are basics!

The clerk must have either been a relative of someone who was a friend of someone high up there, or maybe just cute.

Everyone needs a job. I wouldn't let it bother me if it happened to me, but would tell others because it is so funny.

Ya know the worst part of that is even if they couldn't figure out how divide by 12...it would have taken either one about 10 seconds to type it into a search box and get the answer....

I expect this stuff when I go to Mcdz and ask for mocha and they ask if I want chocolate with that.

But come on inches to feet at Home Depot? I would have lost it and made someone cry.

Sure have. I was born and raised there.

Beautiful and diverse landscapes from mountain forests to desert plains. The Carlsbad Caverns are something everyone should try to see at least once. And we have Roswell!

Lots of bible thumpers but eh, easily avoided.

I'd love to go back, but the logististics of moving would be a costly nightmare right now.

In 20 years, it will take a team of translators to read a letter written in cursive if things keep going in the direction they've been going the last 20.
