This wise person is saying that he will not give in to the doomsday hype-machine that every hurricane now generates across the media. Will stick with meteorlogical forecasting science and methodologies...inspite of pressure from his superiors...and influence from The Weather Channel.

That's not what this person's statement was about. It was not about "not giving the doomsday hype-machine" forecast.

What this was about was NOT committing to saying when and where exactly the storm will hit, potentially giving some people a false sense of security. The storm had changed it's track a few times in the day leading up to this, and the areas the were in the greatest danger (and by subtraction, the areas that were not) was an ever-changing thing.

So every forecaster (like this one), the ones on the Weather Channel, and the people at the National Hurricane Center/National Weather Service were simply all saying they could not be able to know the exact target point where would hit, so they would not attempt to do so that early (Wednesday), and trying to do so would be irresponsible because it might give the people who were NOT in that stated target zone a false sense of security if that target zone forecast ended up being incorrect.

The people wanted to know from the weather forecasting people where the worst parts of storm would hit. The responsible thing for those forecasters to do is to tell everyone along the NC and SC coasts that they should all consider themselves to be in the target zone, because it could end up hitting anywhere along there, and its effects might be widespread -- which is what this person did; they did not give in to saying where and when it will hit and who will be the most affected.

You are reading too much into this.

Has nothing to do with the fact that drier air has been feeding the south west quadrant for the past 24 hours.
A condition which didn't exist 48 hours ago. That is why they always say to stay tuned to the weather because these storms are mercurial and change all the time. They do their best to get it right and warn people.
But hey heres an idea, how bout they don't warn and then thousands die? Would you prefer that to them warning and then having to say oops?
They never say we know for sure this is what is going to happen. They know what the conditions are and they know what conditions will weaken and which conditions will strengthen a hurricane. The dry air was at first not effecting the storm which was unusual.
