It's actually not as bad as you think it would be. He had a tube of peaches he hadn't opened that he let me try. They were actually quite good.

Now that you wrote pogo crew I remember a conversation we had about a pogo that didn´t want to let go from the aircraft. I think you told me it is not out of the norm to have that happen.

No, they were pushing it to reach 85,000 on that flight. The MiG reached something lolthe 125,000 feet but used a zoom climb and was specially modified to do it.

Saw documentary recently on Mcdonnell Douglas F4

Used it as chase planes for Gemini space launches - planes in zoom climb reached over 70,000 ft as took film
of Titan booster as it went through MAX Q - time of greatest pressure on airframe as it accelerated through
Mach in lower atmosphere

F4 would synch their movements to countdown and begin zoom climb at 35,000 ft following booster up past 70,000 ft
tens of thousands over rated service ceiling

Titans had tendency to develop pogo or longitudal oscillations

F15 Rocket plane comes to mind.

Streak Eagle. It wasn't a rocket plane, but they stripped everything possible from it, including paint.

I pictured a crew in an SR-71 or U-2 cruising along and looking up to see a glider, and that made me smile.
