Mig 21 down in India

A mig 21 has crashed in India today killing the pilot as well.
There's not much info on the site I saw it on and if the pictures are from there it left one massive crater.

The MiG-21 BIS is one of the oldest variants of the fighter in service. The Indian Air Force has been the world's largest operator of the jet, the first variants of which entered service with the air force in the sixties.

These birds belong in museums and airshows.. not in service.
There is absolutely no identifiable piece left.

Crash site in video... came straight down???

India has a really good Air Force, for that region, when they can fly. They've already lost well over half of their original MiG-21 force. Two of the big things that jumped out at their Red Flag appearance was their maintenance and interoperability capabilities.

Not very. At low speed, a delta needs a high angle of attack because of the drag caused by the design. They're designed for high subsonic and efficient supersonic flight, not so much lower subsonic speeds. It all depends on the failure point and pilot though.

Is that common an crash site like this?

I couldn't identify one single piece of an airplane in the whole video.

But that's okay 'cause I am not an expert at all..

In a straight in crash, it's not uncommon. There was an A-6 years ago that went straight in and impacted near mach one. They found the wreckage 8 or 9 feet underground. The engines, that are normally around 6 feet long, were less than three when recovered.

They are calling them flying coffins in India.

Of the 946 MiG-21s in total they lost ~500 in accidents over the last ~50 years.

Had 3 crashes like this in my career.. crater and metal bits.

Mig21's are cold war junks. Even AA can shoot them out of the air easily. India is extremely behind because it is still trying capitalism.

That is amazing right? I bet they going to try and finish flying the other 446 Migs until they crash and burn.
