Why, in the movie, do they call him Sir? In the UK a Sergeant is never called Sir, that is reserved for officers. A Sergeant hates being called Sir, they consider it an insult and will let you know in no uncertain terms. In the UK nobody can join the army as a Sergeant, it is a hard earned rank. People can join as an officer though. RIP Sarge.
