About 15 years ago there was a theatrical group that put on a Christmas Eve living diorama of Nativity Scene called something like Bethlehem Tour, complete with Roman soldiers and regular Judean people going about their business.

When I saw Virgin Mary I felt that I should tell her something; give her a warning. The only thing that came to mind was the verse "Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against. Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."(Luke 2:34,35)

I was too sad to say that to her, so I grabbed her hand and said, "Come with me. I have a room in a land that neither Judeans nor Romans know about!"

She yanked her hand out of my grasp and gave me a very dirty look. As the guards hauled me away, I looked back to her with pleading eyes, "this doesn't have to play out this way!"
