I would like to think that if the government started to make that move, that the people wouldn't allow it. But alas most people are happy with ignorance. They prefer to be herded like sheep. They like the warm fuzzy feeling they get when the shepherds hand gives them a pat. Even if it on the way to the slaughter house.

Will this country become a dictatorship eventually. Im sure its inevitable. It'll be passed off as a way to protect the people from themselves. (Not making a statement for or against the gun debate) look at the way things are manipulated in order for an agenda to be pushed. In the gun debate for example both sides are trying to push agenda's by using tragedy.

I've said my piece. And as always.

US cannot have dictator because US is not independently operated.

You think they will reveal the team behind the one way mirror? The Roman council of dictates?

Ever since the passage of the Patriot Act, we are gradually losing our rights bit by bit.

What rights have you lost?

To the OP. I don't think the US is close to becoming a dictatorship, but there is a worrying trend for political dynasties and a remote political class, which will become increasingly difficult to break in to.

In a Star Trek type society where work is voluntary and menial labor is handled by automation. I think that sets us free..

Everyone with an interest in science , can focus on science... not much time for that when your running from dead end job to dead end job barely paying the bills..

They why don't the areas with the highest levels of unemployment and dependency on social care programs, turn out the highest number of scientists?

It appears that humanity, when freed from the shackles of needing to run from dead end job to dead end job, naturally gravitates towards becoming aspiring rappers.

Because they can't afford to go to college and most of their spare time is spent hustling to get their next buck...

I believe American leftists would welcome a dictator as long as he held their beliefs.

It will most likely not be that kind of a dictatorship. It will be some form of collective dictatorship.

How can they not afford to go to college when they go for free?

I knew there was something off about those little buggers. They look cute and all but I tried to warn people that they are heck bent on world domination. I'm glad you can see them for what they are too. But maybe you meant Star Wars?

Now the Borg, those were a nasty piece of work and they didn't pretend to be cute and harmless.

That's a good answer. We can sort of see the "collective" as dictator already by way of the triumph of the influence of outlets such as CNN, NYT, NPR and ultimately, the internet. Its probably inevitable.

I think you're confusing that with Stargate.

In a dictatorship BLM would have been destroyed along with occupy.

These movements were 'destroyed', just like in a Dictatorship.

Please elaborate. Occupy was a bunch of hippies that gave up,

Occupy was gassed, tased, clubbed , infiltrated and 'flash banged' (with grenades) out of existence, everywhere it appeared.

Please elaborate? STFU...

Your explanation of bipartisan beffudles me....
"The House voted 250-153 to renew three parts of the counter-terrorism surveillance law. Thirty-one House Republicans joined most Democrats in opposing the extension, while 54 Democrats supported it.

Hours earlier, the bill cleared the Senate on a 72-23 vote, with 19 Democrats and four Republicans voting no, mostly over concerns the Patriot Act violates personal privacy and civil liberties." And then Obama signed it into law.

A) You kind of support my point that we are in the dependency stage with your comment on jobs. Add to that comment that 1 in 7 people in the US relies on a food bank.
www.usatoday.com...
Cali, that bastion of liberalism, is in the midst of a homeless crisis.
metro.co.uk...

These and other factors are creating an environment of increasing dependency on the government. Don't even get me started on peoples reactions during a disaster.

B.) Are you comparing cave dwellers to a modern society? That would be a different stage and form of government would it not?

C. I never said Millennials were entitled, I spoke of their reputation. For me, that means the "boomerang generation" where 1 in 3 was living at home.....dependant on their parents. Many with degrees that will never be enough to pay their student loans back (dependant on government help by Bernie).

D. I misspoke about Native Americans and apologise profusely for perpetuating a nasty myth. My goal here was to show how welfare handouts cause people to lose their dignity and self-worth after a while as they become dependant on government handouts. Witness the EBT riots in Walmart. This actually deserves its own thread...

E. For real? You would work for no money? How you going to afford a house, car, vacation, etc. O yeah! You are DEPENDENT ON THE GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!

Yeah. It's a lot harder for one guy who is often wrong to hold onto power long-term than it is to let consensus rule supreme and have no one to blame it on when/if consensus is ever proved wrong. Which is unlikely to happen anyway because when you have 50 million people who are all wrong, they're very unlikely to ever want to admit it. Much easier to pass the buck and blame it on the minority. Really, this is what happened in Nazi Germany. It wasn't all about Hitler. It was about millions and millions of people throwing their support behind him and being too chicken # to ask if they might have been wrong.

Infiltrated... By the original SJW fountainhead creatures. Co-opted Occupy, they did. And then the MSM + DNC + Hollyweird managed to make it the Mainstream in but 5 short years, the masses all unwitting pawns of the Ruling Establishment, stormtroopering around to the beat of the drummer of our elite masters the masses were. Suckers enough to think that "They" actually give a shiite about minorities or any of that. Too blindsided with their learned bigotry to have any hope of thinking beyond skin color to have any hope of figuring out what the real agenda behind it might be. And totally stoked that our elite masters MSM is banging their drum and all the sudden the militarized police state apparatus that beat them down at Occupy now was letting them run roughshod burning down cities, even helping them in some cases when regular people started standing up to them where the cops wouldn't.

Welcome to crazy world.

FBI plants informants in every movement, donchaknow.

The local cops did too.
