Well Well Well, that didn't take long did it no sooner does Facebook announce that MSM entities would have to start paying to get news into peoples feeds ...

Facebook is currently testing a change that would force news publishers to pay to show posts from their Facebook Pages in the News Feed.

In six countries, posts from Facebook Pages are now shown in a separate Explore tab, while the main News Feed only shows posts from friends, ads, and posts that companies operating Pages have paid to promote

Facebook said it has no current plans to roll the change out globally.

Facebook has been criticised for the worrying impact on democracy of its “downright Orwellian” decision.

www.theguardian.com...
uk.businessinsider.com...
..... Now we get the first rumblings from those FAKE artists in journo rooms all over those countries affected. 'Orwellian' they are calling it, but is that not a perfect description of the media news entity itself.

"Orwellian" is an adjective describing the situation, idea, or societal condition that George Orwell identified as being destructive to the welfare of a free and open society.

The MSM has now reached their maker. They firstly started as a TRUE people's information service and we paid a small fee to hear the news. Then powerful men saw that controlling our information had its benefits so they bought them up. Editors and journalists have then fed the masses while taking their money and became very rich while controlling the narrative. You used to buy the newspaper and keep clippings of stories, we had something physical as they also took our money. But enter the internet. In their quest to further control the masses and the narrative they decided to take their business online, but that was their biggest error. They gave up taking physical money from people and decided to rely on advertisers for revenue, while people like Facebook and Twitter allowed them use of their platforms. Fast forward to today, NOW they will have to pay to use these services, but where do they get this money now. Well one has resorted to begging already ....

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading the Guardian than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. And unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. The Guardian’s independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

Is this the end of MSM and a rebirth of REAL news the public is willing to pay for ???

And the MSM will throw money at it, maybe they will be the first down that drain at the swamp (probably bumping into the Cl*ntons on the way through the plug hole).. People have wised up, they want to see and feel something for their money, they aren't going to pay for opinions online, they can get that from millions of others, the media has lost any control IT ever had

What does Facebook have to do with reporting the news? And why would this be the end of msm? I'm confused.

might help if you actually read the post and links

Most news organizations rely on Facebook as a major source of traffic for their content. Along with Google's search engine, Facebook's algorithms are largely responsible for helping grow the early reach of digital upstarts like BuzzFeed and The Huffington Post.

People seem to forget that Facebook is not everything on earth.
It is not the majority of people on earth, that are influenced and spied on by corporate groups like Facebook, it´s the minority!

Who on earth get´s his "news" from an echo chamber like Facebook???

Sane people maybe try Facebook once(like i did, anonymous account) and come to the conclusion that they don´t need it. And sane people don´t use what they don´t need. Some have a real good reason to use Facebook(artists, PR), the others just use Facebook because "everybody else does". And for sure, to self-expose, to feel like a little "VIP" that is noticed by others, by Facebook "friends".

And such a platform, maybe with billions of accounts worldwide, but used only by a few, most teenagers, should end the MSM now?

Come on, it´s just the spying platform for self-exposers Facebook, not "god"....

Yes, but the msm existed before Facebook. So, even though they used it out of convenience, I still don't see this change having any effect.

This is classic Facebook. They've allowed small publishers to build up a reach, and now they're turning around and saying if they want to keep that reach they've got to pay for it through the nose.

Smart publishers saw this coming years ago and tried to build a business that operated outwith Facebook.

I don't see what it has to do with the MSM though. This is just Facebook desperate to try and make money before people start to notice that the company isn't worth a tenth of what it's valued at.

I wonder if Agent Zuckerberg (Z1) and His lovely bride (Z2) haven't fallen on hard times? Anyone know the name of the GoFundMe™ page for the Zuckerbergs?

"Let's see if the consumer will pay us to spy on them?..."

Remember the farcebook™ IPO? You know where the Zuckerberg's made their bone$? That too was illicit.

Then He gets married the very next day, surprising everyone that knew him, yeah seems legit.

People get their news from Facebook?

That actually explains quite a bit.... no exaggeration, that makes sense.

This is a simple play to pay scheme. Big or small, if you have the bread, FB will show your goods.

This is them further monetizing their platform, this IS America, what they do with it is their own business, which is one of the reasons why I don't use use FB.

Too many people (especially Americans) act like Facebook is a right when it's a luxury. Facebook is here to stay, there ain't any competition so far, it's already last longer than it's predecessor MySpace and the one before that.

Facebook is merely a tool to use to spy on and manipulate the public. Facebook's involvement with manipulating what news its users can or can't see is simply a natural evolution of its purpose. It's not a social networking website, it's a social manipulation website disguised as social networking.
