It looks like some of the Obama leftovers in the IRS are still salty from that devastating election loss and are hitting back against all the attacks trying to kill the ACA. Just more political games from the IRS, imagine that. It's not like Obama "weaponized" the IRS into a political entity that specializes in witch hunts only involving conservative groups.

actually, the IRS cracked down on left and right wing entities during the alleged conservative witch hunts

"Cracked down" is all in the eyes of the beholder whether numbers agree or not
Damn that pesky numeric stuff.....always getting in the way.

Not processing an incomplete return?
Oh my goodness.

Would it not be because they are avoiding paying the tax that Obama obliged them to pay for not having insurance? Don't you just love your freedoms in America today?

What the heck????
Here's what the IRS said a few months ago:

But following President Donald Trump's executive order on Obamacare in which he instructed federal agencies to remove the "burden" of the law, the IRS decided that it would not reject those 1040 forms with a question that asked whether the filer had health insurance left blank.

www.businessinsider.com...

However, the Jan. 20, 2017, executive order directed federal agencies to exercise authority and discretion available to them to reduce potential burden.‎ Consistent with that, the IRS has decided to make changes that would continue to allow electronic and paper returns to be accepted for processing in instances where a taxpayer doesn’t indicate their coverage status

Gotta wonder why they decided to go all nasty again

Hey now, let's not get crazy....

There should have been a more straightforward mechanism of doing this since its obvious the IRS easily could have access to the info. Instead of instantaneously fixed, it can take weeks if not months for the IRS to verify something they already know.

Yeah I usually like Xuen's post's; dont know much about the US tax system but if its anything like ours you have to comply with directives/procedures as to administration of the Tax Act.

Thread Fail

The sources you refer to are talking about 2016 tax returns. Your source:

Health policy experts had predicted that the stricter imposition of the penalties could drive more enrollment and help rebalance the Obamacare exchanges' risk pool, which have so far been sicker and more expensive for insurers than expected.

www.businessinsider.com...
The administration did not want to "encourage" people to enroll? That doesn't make sense, since it was for the prior year.

The new policy concerns returns for 2017. Why the change? Good question. Another one of Trump's EOs that isn't worth the paper it's written on? Or is the IRS scratching for revenue to make up for the fallout from doing away with the reimbursements.

Your post sums it up in a nutshell. But as I've said in other threads on this ObamaCare subject, before 1.1.2017, the IRS had no way to verify if you had health insurance/coverage, or not. And they still might not have that ability.

The IRS gets form 1095 in it's various iterations (A,B,C). That's the form that tells what kind of coverage you had (Marketplace, State Medicaid, Business Sponsored) and how long you had it for the year. They do have all of this info, similar to how have already have your W-2 and 1099 forms. Like I said previously, this whole situation could be done automatically in the background.

I tell people, doing your taxes is an honesty test, the IRS already has your forms, they want to see if you actually report all of them.

That or running scared that unACA will go away at some point.

Didn't see that the source was for 2016, but I truly had heard that Line 61 was something that no longer had to be a concern.
