Hey all, after yesterday's events and the barrage of threads concerning it, I noticed a trend. This site has become really divisive. O remember lurking years ago before I even started an account, most everyone was friendly. There were some heated arguments, but both parties were respectful. Now maybe it's just me, but holy cow. Most threads you encounter will be full of people stating their opinion (fine) then insulting any who disagree to any extent (not cool)

Maybe I'm just a softie, but I miss the days when we recognized the enemy. And it wasn't the "right" or the "left" it was the entirety of the people who claim power over us.

It REALLY amped up during the election. I witnessed some members I had respect for say some awful things to one another. From both "sides"

It was too much. I had to walk away. I took a break for several months from even visiting this site.

And upon returning noticed it hadn't changed. If anything it got worse.

Right or left. We are all under the control of a system designed to keep us down. Trump is no different. Clinton would have been no different

TPTB do not care about us. These people aren't our neighbors. They have a vested interest in protecting their investment. Which translates to dollar signs. They want to divide us. And as a nation we've bought into it. Hook, line, and sinker.

Maybe this should be in the rant section.

I just miss the good ol days.

I just wish we could see the common enemy isn't each other.

"Yes I know my enemies, they're the teachers who taught me to fight me."

ETA: I do not identify as democrat, republican, socialist, if anything I am a humanist.

America is a very divided nation so it shouldn't surprise anyone the ATS mirrors this division. I don't like laws restricting freedom so for me both the right and the left can manifest as the enemy of liberty.

Everything was fine until they screwed over Bernie, then it became hopeless.

Agreed. But I think anyone stating that any one elected representative is the bastion of freedom "for the people" is off base.

I mean I get ideology. But how different, REALLY, are both parties?

To me, they best way to combat the pervasive sickness of the political cult mentality is to get the message out for everyone to find room in their hearts for the opposition. Because without the opposition, no matter where you are on the political spectrum, you will likely destroy yourself.

It used to be that we were all trying to get to the same place we just had a difference in opinion on the best route to get there. And now the mentality sweeping modern politics is like that of Wile E. Coyote where you don't want the other guy to arrive at all. And we all know how it usually ended up for Wile E. Coyote.

I think Mr. Sanders is a perfect example of someone we should not be electing for the executive office. Not that I disagree with him on many things, but he has a massive blind spot and is only capable of seeing things one way. He's perfect for congress. We need more people like him in that regard. But I strongly feel that the executive office should be reserved for the pragmatic centrist that is capable of measuring the current problem for a fitting solution instead of just trying to shoehorn their ideology into any situation and the hell with the consequences. Often times it is more important how you effect change than the why.
