Have you been hearing any really creepy sounds, like a woman being murdered? It's probably a fox, looks like a fox.

Sorry, this made me laugh because I was woken up one night to that very sound...and it was foxes mating...scared the bejeesus out of me...I described it as "a woman being stabbed."

Where are you (general region only) as that would give us a notion about local wildlife?

And def looks canine ... but that muzzle is curious and I agree that it has Hyena qualities, though seems smaller.

Quite likely a fox or coyote/dog mix ... but the muzzle is a bit weird.

Cool post... someone will be more definite at IDing it, I'm sure.

edit: and looking again, it has deer qualities... maybe a dog/deer gene splice?? (kidding) A dwarf deer? But then the tail is wrong... sigh

NC, I'm in the city suburbs. Maybe I should keep feeding it to get more pictures, but I also don't want to put other animals at risk. It doesn't look like it's a mean animal. But, you never know. I know it likes cat food. I really want to get a nice colored picture of it. Maybe I should leave the porch light on.

So, I have been feeding the stray cats on my block, but lately I have been getting a new visitor.

Translation: The feral cat colony I'm supporting is causing wildlife to interact with my home and pets.

Stop feeding feral cats. Feeding feral cats causes more feral cats which then results in more suffering for unwanted, unvaccinated, and unloved cats.

I would guess a fox, but it does seem to look a little strange.
I've gone outside at night because I thought I heard a woman sobbing.
It was a fox.

Did it sound like this?

I heard the same sounds every pre-dawn in Rome in an apartment by the Vatican. My sister was with me on that trip and the location it was coming from was some sort of roof top mini temple on the building next to us with flowing curtains all around, lol. It's sounds identical, lol again.

But back on topic, the OP's video shows a fox imho.

It's a bushy tail red fox, and he knows it. Just like his white fly post earlier. LOL Moth.

Definitely a fox, in my opinion, and that of others here. Right shape, right shading, everything. Shame there is no color video; I'd bet it's quite beautiful!!

We had a very large raccoon grabbing food from our outdoor cat dish some years back. Startled me one day, when I opened the door, and there he was!
