They talked about how the NASA rover Opportunity was only built to last for a short period of time and has been working now for well over 12 years. There was a possible connection made to the rover getting some or most of its power from the Martian atmosphere.

"Just before the show ended, they had an actual recording of a chat between an NASA Astronaut and ground control. The Astronaut was saying " This is Discovery, we still have the alien ship in sight." As Mr. Spock would say.....fascinating! "
This is a hoax and there's no excuse for including it. Don Ratsch, who recorded this comment from a ham band rebroadcast [of the actual space-to-ground in a frequency far outside normal 'ham' equipment tange] by a local amateur radio club in Maryland, was the researcher who disclosed the sound recording. He subsequently concluded, based on other audio receptions, that the comment was a prank by a local ham transmitting on that band -- he announced this TWENTY years ago, everybody ought to have read it by now.
Here's the Ratsch retraction -- note the date:

Ratsch got voiceprints of the crew -- he even phoned in to NASA Public Affairs asking for an interview with Blaha, posing as a newsman -- and had a friend run voiceprints, and they did not match.
As the old proverb goes, the last person who admits to being hoaxed is the one who has invested the most money, time, and ego-defense in accepting the original fraud. Sound familiar?

I never said I ever believed the fake recording, only that the voice sounds like his voice. I imagine when someone's business is debunking everything on the pipeline, they will be doing a lot of pouncing to set the record straight as is their prime ambition. Usually it's the low hanging fruit.

Point us to higher-hanging astronaut-related fruit, please.
