From what I have read, I would have to say that it appears that is one of the possibilities.
If you pay attention to Genesis alone it has many inconsistencies and hints that point to technology rather than all powerfulness.

Read anything by Robert Bauval, Alan Alford, Graham Hancock, but whatever you do please stay well away from Von Danniken.

I think that this is probably the case.
There are lots of old paintings with strange disk like objects in them, painted before the idea of flying saucers became polpular.
I think that possibly the aliens have been among us for some time, manipulating our evolution to fit whatever design they have for us.
I think they are causing prophecies to come true so that we will be more inclined to believe that 'God' is among us and is returning.
I do not know their motives, it might have to do with the natural resources of our planet. Maybe they want oil for some reason.
Maybe the space craft seen around the world are returning to pick up supplies and take them back to wherever they came from.

I honestly don't know the answer to all of these but, when you look beneath the mainstream information feed, you come across a lot of very strange coincidences.

Okay I think there are many names for the book. but I only know it as Waren goden kosmonauten. It was the dutch version... but it is the same book I think.

I always heard they claimed he was the son of god.
according to the bible god has many sons.
