His motive remains unclear, but local media speculates that he may have been mentally disturbed.

You think?

The police report said the driver is in fact a 35 year old german male. A 72 year old victim succumbed his serious injuries. RiP! The other two victims had only minor injuries and left the hospital already.

Is he "radicalized"?

Or just a guy that rented a car, got a knife, ran the rented car into pedestrians , ran from the police with the knife and got himself shot for attacking the police?

Very premature to call it a terrorist attack imo.

Of course it is, in any case, in the report, the police said right off they didn't think it was a terrorist attack, but it, as you say, still needs to be confirmed one way or the other. In other words the media have reported correctly in this case.

Seems like to police should not be commenting either way until they know.

Nothing specific yet. They only disclosed his age and that he has a german passport nothing more.

I hate the german media... Now they report a 73 year old male has died but the police said he was 72. Journalism at its finest or the mannheim police is stupid. They can't even get the age of the deceased right.

There is no indication for a terror attack. The car was a rental. This could mean he intended to run people over.

Edit: They fixed it and now it's 73.

Most middle east folks have inbred issues so mental issues might be their politically correct way of saying their family tree was more like a vine.

The driver was a 35 year old german male student without immigration background. Eyewitnesses reported that he sped up when he saw the group in front of the bakery. That indicates intent. It seems that he was just another mentally unstable individual.

So officials went out of their way to proclaim he is not a first generation immigrant?

But they still refuse to state his name?

There was a large migration of turkish muslims to work construction jobs during the rebuilding of germany after WW2, so Islamic terrorism can't be ruled out just because he is not a recent arrival.

Also he could be a radicalized German citizen, or just lost his cookies and decided it was time to run his car into people.

I would like to know what his name was though.

uh yeah...how many articles have we seen where a criminal act occurs and the criminal is referred to as a "swiss national" or the like and in fact they are a muslim immigrant who just happen to have status in that country.

thats why they are lying media....because they prefer to use terms which obfuscate rather than clarify.

And the really stupid part is that they are only saving face at this point.

If there was a mistake taking certain people in, find them, cuff them, deport them.

And set up a strong vetting process so it is harder to get the bad immigrants.

But something tells me this (not the story) is about something bigger than not being able to admit they made a mistake.

eeeeyup....and something else......its not too common to be a 35 year person at the Uni. Just snoop around the german expat sites....youre pretty much geriatric at that age if your in university.

and something else.....its extremely uncommon for germans, real germans, to attempt mass attacks on people.....

Funny. RT is quoting officials as saying the claims about him being mentally disturbed are simply speculation and they have no evidence to suggest that.

So...not terrorism and not a mentally disturbed individual?

ETA - voice of Europe says it was "an attack on women and children."

A 78 year old man died, two others were injured.

No, they don't have a motive but don't think it's terrorism related. Article on Der Spiegel (in German... use Google Translate if you like)
