The Queen owns Hawaii

Haha maybe not, but watching a quiz show just now I learned that Hawaii is the only US state to have the British Union Flag on its state flag.

This surprised me to be honest seeing as y'all fought a war for independence from the imperial overlords.
Personally I'd be uncomfortable having a foreign sovereign state flag on my nations.
I kind of understand the Commonwealth countries who retained the queen as head of state, but Hawaii?!

So, is it a conspiracy, does the queen secretly own Hawaii as some tinfoil wearing folk claim about the US?

Any Hawaiian folk here? Do you salute your flag or does it make you cringe a little?
As I said, I learned something new today but it did make me chuckle.

To be honest I thought maybe you had knocked off early on a friday and sank a few too many down the local!

She owns around a sixth of the World's land mass.

She owns countries that are not her own domestic territory. She is the World's biggest landowner, but still expects us to pay for the renovations on her house.

I was far too busy doing....other stuff in Hawaii to give a toss what the flag looked like.

Why would it be offensive to have an allies flag upon your flag. Britain wasn't even an owner to America in 1778 when Hawaii was discovered and wasn't a state until mid 1959.

I never know what to think anymore, I've been called an oppressed peasant subject of the Crown so many times by US members over the years I get confused now.

I'd be happy with free movement of people between Hawaii and Britain though, I'd be gone in a heartbeat.
I can't imagine many Hawaiians moving here though!

The flag of Hawaii is representative of the country's history. Besides, the flag of the US is based on the the old British Empire ensigns.
