Nah, not chiggers. They tend to hang out where they are stopped which is why the are in skin crevices and along elastic lines. Otherwise they just crawl up, so they can get quite high up.

But what a lot of people don't get is that chiggers are a mite that bites, sucks, drops off. The welt you see is the reaction like it is with mosquito bites, so there is no bug. If you get infested and your clothing carries chiggers ... say you favorite pair of jeans ... you can re-infect yourself if you don't wash the infested pair before wearing it again.

but isn't it interesting that some cases of leprosy broke as well,,,I think it is worth noting, not that they are connected to each other but that they both happened,,wonder if anything else unususal will crop up

Could it be spreading? You would never think Leprosy (Hansen's disease) but you never know. Just throwing it out there.

Nevermind! I just looked at some photos and I missed the ball on this post!

Nah man, I would've been proud of my country for that one, and have been aware.
I've always been saying we should engineer a pathogen to kill all the mosquitos.

Are they really that critical to the food chain?

Yes they are.
They are the primary food of both barn swallows and several species of bats.
Not to mention predatory insects such as dragonflies and their larvae.
Every single plant and animal has a role to play, often a critical one we fail to recognize.

Well not really. The system just likes to reach equilibrium, but we can throw it out-of-whack anytime we like and let it re-adjust.

The entire system has been a process of extinction and speciation and will continue on this path.
What's the difference if we cause some extinction?
