A receptionist at an obstetrician clinic has been charged with administering abortion inducing drugs without her employers knowledge. Liza Berdiel, 24, has been charged with three counts of unlicensed practice of medicine for performing abortions without a license. In addition to stealing the drugs she received $380 dollars from each of the patients to perform the procedure.

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - A obstetrician's receptionist has been charged with injecting abortion-inducing drugs into three patients, apparently without her employer's knowledge, authorities said Tuesday.

Liza Berdiel, 24, an employee of Pleasant Woman's Pavilion, was charged with three counts of unlicensed practice of medicine for performing abortions without a license, authorities said.

Berdiel also was charged with three counts of theft by deception for accepting $380 apiece for the procedures, which took place in November and December. She was also charged with theft and forgery for using a stolen prescription pad to write a prescription for one of the patients, authorities said.

The woman, who was arrested Thursday and released on her own recognizance, was working for Dr. Flavius Thompson and performed the abortions after-hours or when he was not working, according to Lt. Jeff Harper, a spokesman for Ocean County Prosecutor Thomas F. Kelaher.

The three women whose abortions prompted the charges had all sought the procedures, Harper said. They suffered no complications as a result of the receptionist's actions, he said.

Why on earth would someone go to somebody like that for a medical procedure. Yet there are ample stories of people doing this. From the guy in a San Jose, California strip mall that botched a breast augmentation, to the guy that was performing testicle removal in his home, people are just plain ignorant. A word of advise from a health care professional, go to a real hospital or clinic, and DO NOT allow the receptionist to perform medical procedures on you.
