It always fascinates me when people start to imagine that we are so miraculously special on this little rock that somehow the alignment of celestial bodies of one combination or another - just because of our perspective from our position in the universe - somehow means something to us.

It's like walking down the street and seeing three cars lining up in front of us and imagining that "means" something special.

What happens to the Moon when three other planets line up in a specific way? Nothing.
What happens to the sun when this happens? Nothing.
What happens to us? Nothing.

The only interesting thing about all of this is that it shows how desperate Humans are to feel special in this vast expanse of the universe.

Hi all. I've read a good number of threads about similar doom scenarios. I have a serious question: can anyone explain the idea of planetary/solar/lunar alignments being harbingers of doom? In a vacuum of knowledge, I'm willing to entertain the notion that such alignments could do SOMETHING, but that's as far as I go with it. Anyone?

Two aspects probably;
1) The gods are warning us by moving the planets around in certain ways.
2) The notion that, since the Moon and Sun cause tidal effects on Earth, it only stands to reason that the planets do too.

#1 Sure, why not?

#2 Tides are caused by gravitational influences (gravity gradients, to be precise). The Moon is close enough so that the gravity gradient which Earth experiences because of it is strong enough to produce observable effects. The Sun is massive enough so that, even quite distant, its gravitational effects can also be observed (though to a significantly lesser degree than that of the Moon because the gradient is less pronounced). The planets are neither massive enough nor near enough to produce significant tidal effects.

It's been pretty dry on good doom porn lately. I'm glad there is a little trickling in even if it isn't that good. Kind of got spoiled a few years back when all kinds of stuff was going on and predicted. I did get all prepped in case there was a disaster up to three months though, We are keeping it up too. It makes us feel in control of our destiny more, it is actually sort of a stress reliever. Never again will the wife and I ever get so trusting to believe nothing will ever happen. That was kind of stupid. But there were so many years where everything was going pretty good, those times do not usually come around often in the world, look at the history and what is happening around the world. We were lucky.

oh thanks for reminding i should have offered some blood to my goddess. seriously though you might need to try to study some astrology more theres no calamity going to happen because of this i know it is so dissapionying i too was wanting a beer while the i watched the world burn......
